Upper Elementary Teacher

The Sahtu Divisional Education Council is actively seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and dedicated Elementary Teacher for one available position. Candidates should either hold or be in the process of obtaining a Bachelor of Education degree and must qualify for a Northwest Territories Teaching Certificate. The following qualifications will be crucial in the selection process:

  • A readiness and ability to implement best practices in Elementary education with a strong foundation in play-based, inquiry-based, outcomes-based, and cooperative learning methods.
  • A thorough understanding of inclusive and trauma-informed practices, emphasizing mindfulness and self-regulation as essential elements of classroom routines.
  • Proficiency in direct reading instruction aligned with the Comprehensive (Balanced) Literacy framework and effective utilization of divisional tools and resources, including Fountas and Pinnell Reading Assessments, Fountas and Pinnell Classroom, and Levelled Literacy Intervention.
  • Expertise in writing instruction strategies that foster creativity and incorporate place-based approaches while applying differentiation and inclusive methods to support all learners.
  • Strong skills in interactive, hands-on numeracy, ensuring that mathematics is engaging, curriculum-aligned, and incorporates formative assessments in daily and weekly planning to enhance student achievement. Daily number talks, mathematical reasoning, vocabulary, and manipulatives should be core components of the learning environment.
  • Excellent teamwork abilities, as educators collaborate to improve overall student outcomes.
  • A dedication to fostering strong community connections and actively engaging in the vibrant cultural and extracurricular activities of the school.

Salary will be determined based on experience and qualifications, ranging from $95,232 to $153,748 per year, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes a Northern Living Allowance of approximately $28,000 and relocation assistance.
