Kivalliq School Operations, a division of the Nunavut Department of Education, is inviting applications for the position of Student Support Teacher. In this role, you will be instrumental in fostering student learning through inclusive and culturally responsive practices. You will work closely with the school team to develop, implement, and assess Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that support student growth, development, and overall well-being. Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
• A Special Education Certificate/degree or equivalent coursework is an asset
• Minimum three years of teaching experience
• Favorable consideration will be given to experience as a Special Education/Student Support Teacher
• A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers lacking a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways to Teach Canada)
• Experience in bilingual or ESL teaching settings

Candidates need not meet every qualification; relevant experience and a dedication to community-centered education are highly valued.

Student Support & Special Education Expertise
• Experience in collaborating with classroom teachers to create and implement individual support plans for students with exceptional needs
• Experience mentoring staff to encourage positive behaviors and maintain a safe learning atmosphere

Language and Cultural Assets
• Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
• Experience supporting education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
• Experience teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canadian settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
• Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching strategies
• Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development (e.g., Balanced Literacy Strategies)
• Experience in fostering a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)
• Experience mentoring staff to encourage positive behavior and ensure a safe learning environment

Relationships & Student Engagement
• Experience promoting student well-being and engagement
• Experience connecting with students outside of the classroom as appropriate
• Proven ability to establish respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders

Collaboration & Professional Practice
• Experience collaborating with Education Support Service Providers (e.g., Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Psychologists)
• Experience linking with community support services, such as Family Services and Community Mental Health
• Experience leading and conducting professional development sessions based on the needs of individuals and groups

Technology Integration
• Experience managing accessibility equipment (e.g., assistive technology for learning devices, Phonak equipment, lifts, etc.)

Compensation and Benefits
• Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
• Nunavut Northern Allowance for Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut: $23,147
• Subsidized Housing: Available, although sharing may be required.

Conditions of Employment
• Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
• Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications missing this documentation will not be considered.
