About This Role

This is a new and exciting opportunity to become The Academy of Central Bedfordshire's specialist Reading and Literacy Mentor. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving literacy outcomes for some of our most vulnerable learners, helping students develop the reading skills, confidence and resilience needed to access learning and achieve future success.

This is a cross-site role, working with students at both our Stotfold and Houghton Regis campuses. The role is 18 hours a week, term time only. The actual working pattern is negotiable, but likely to be between the hours of 9 am and 3 pm.

The Academy of Central Bedfordshire is one of the most successful Alternative Provision schools in the country and has the privilege to educate and support vulnerable young people aged 11 - 16 from across Central Bedfordshire. This is a unique opportunity to work in a trauma informed environment, to provide meaningful education that enables each of our pupils to reach their potential.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of English, SENDCo, English Department, Teaching Assistants and wider pastoral and curriculum teams to ensure reading interventions are effectively planned, delivered and evaluated.

We particularly value the well-being of every member of our school community and regard this as fundamental to the success of our school. We are proud of the level of investment we place in the learning and development of our staff to ensure that every team member has the excellent level of training they need to be effective in their role.

If you are interested in becoming part of our team, please contact Mrs Helen Nicholson on 01462 410450 or hnicholson@acb.beds.sch.uk. We will be delighted to answer any questions or arrange a visit to the school.
