Interview Information

Position Profile

  • Preference will be given to applicants with UK teaching experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching AL/IGCSE/AP in the relevant subject is required.
  • Ability to teach high-achieving students is essential.
  • A degree in the appropriate field of expertise is necessary.
  • A teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) is required.

Specific Responsibilities of the Teaching Position

  • Create and deliver lessons in line with the Scheme of Work, incorporating a variety of learning activities.
  • Design and execute assessments that align with departmental requirements, ensuring timely generation of reports that meet established standards.
  • Consistently assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and implement suitable assessments to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to cultivate a supportive and cooperative environment, sharing best practices and resources.
  • Opportunities exist for teaching AP Chemistry.
  • Potential to instruct in RPQ (Research Projects) & GNT (Gifted and Talented).

Brief Description of SCIE

We are a UK curriculum high school (Cambridge International AS/AL & IGCSE) primarily serving Chinese students preparing for overseas higher education.

Since 2025, we have also introduced an AP stream, creating opportunities for educators interested in teaching AP subjects.

Our mission is to provide students with a rigorous international education that fosters outstanding academic achievement, social responsibility, creativity, independence, and enthusiasm, ensuring they are well-prepared for future opportunities.

  • Selective admissions – English and Mathematics tests are administered.
  • Language of instruction & communication – AS/AL English, predominantly with students at a first language level, most studying AS/AL English language or literature in A1/A2.
  • Over 1800 students, focused exclusively on high school – UK Key Stages 4 & 5.
  • Accreditation – Fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) & WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the US), with regional memberships in FOBISIA & EARCOS.
  • Examinations – AS/AL, IGCSE (Cambridge International and AQA), and AP (College Board).
  • Day & boarding school – Teachers are not required to take on boarding responsibilities or evening duties.

Subject Department Introduction

The Chemistry department consists of 20 full-time teachers and 6 technicians, operating across 11 specially designed laboratories. Instructors will teach a variety of classes ranging from IGCSE Chemistry in UK Years 10 and 11 to AS/AL Chemistry in UK Years 12 and 13, with AP Chemistry available for KS5 students whose academic paths align with it. The subject is highly sought after, with about two-thirds of students taking it at AS level and half at A Level. The department boasts impressive outcomes, with over 86% of students achieving A/A* at IGCSE and nearly 74% at A Level Chemistry in the latest CAIE examinations.
