About This Role

Frontier School Division is seeking applications for the following role:

Position: Cree Language and Culture Teacher
Location: Frontier Mosakahiken School
Start Date: As soon as possible
FTE: 1.00 FTE
Term of Employment: Permanent

Frontier Mosakahiken School serves students from Nursery to Grade 12, accommodating approximately 415 learners. Located in Moose Lake, just 100 km east of The Pas, Manitoba (a fully serviced community), the school is easily reachable by road. The scenic lakeside setting provides ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Education Degree and valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for one)
• Proficiency in both written and spoken Cree
• Understanding of Indigenous culture, history, and the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action
• Prior teaching experience
• Knowledge of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Aboriginal Languages and Culture: Manitoba Curriculum Framework of Outcomes
• A collaborative team player who believes in the potential of all students to learn

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Deliver instruction designed to enhance students' abilities to comprehend, communicate, and write in Cree, while also deepening their cultural understanding
• Integrate Indigenous ways of life and learning into classroom activities
• Gather resources to support language instruction, including local knowledge and speakers
• Foster community connections with local associations and organizations that advocate for Indigenous languages and lifestyles
• Collaborate with fellow teachers and community knowledge keepers to coordinate school cultural activities

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
