About This Role
Role Overview:
The Teacher Assistant will play a vital role in assisting the classroom teacher to provide an exceptional educational experience for students in the Primary and Early Years sections of the school. Responsibilities include aiding in instructional activities, preparing educational materials, offering individual support to students, and fostering a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for early childhood and primary education and be dedicated to nurturing a love for learning in a culturally diverse and multilingual setting.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Classroom Support:
- Collaborate with the classroom teacher to facilitate daily instructional activities.
- Provide additional explanations, guidance, and encouragement to students during lessons.
- Help maintain classroom behavior to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.
2. Individualized Student Support:
- Work closely with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning concepts, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
- Offer support to students with varied learning needs, including those with special educational needs (SEN) or English as an Additional Language (EAL).
- Track and document students’ progress, communicating any concerns to the classroom teacher.
3. Preparation of Learning Materials:
- Assist in the preparation and organization of instructional materials and resources.
- Set up activities and learning centers as directed by the teacher.
- Contribute to the creation of visual aids, displays, and educational resources that enhance the learning experience.
4. Supervision and Duties:
- Oversee students during break times, lunchtimes, and other non-instructional periods.
- Provide care and support to ensure students' well-being and safety.
- Aid in the organization and supervision of educational trips, excursions, and special events.
5. Administrative Support:
- Support the administration of classroom activities, including attendance records, grading, and report preparation.
- Maintain student files and records, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
6. Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents to promote student learning and well-being.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required.
- Communicate clearly with students, colleagues, and parents, showcasing cultural sensitivity and professionalism.
The ideal candidate may also take on the role of bus monitor for the Marbella/La Cala de Mijas route (additional compensation available).
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; a certificate or diploma in Early Childhood Education, Teaching Assistance, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Prior experience as a teaching assistant or in a similar educational role, particularly in an international or bilingual school, is beneficial.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in English.
