About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to become a part of our team. The anticipated start date for this position is 01 August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Upholding and promoting the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Delivering the designated curriculum while showcasing accurate and current knowledge of the subject matter.
- Planning and conducting engaging lessons that inspire students, utilizing appropriate materials and classroom settings to accommodate various learning styles.
- Providing written documentation of planning and preparation upon request. Maintaining comprehensive records of curriculum plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment plans, and more.
- Adhering to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.
- Teaching assigned students according to their individual needs, employing suitable teaching strategies that address diverse abilities, including those of late entrants, ESL learners, and students of varying academic levels.
- Setting and grading assignments. Assessing, recording, and reporting on the academic progress and achievements of students, using assessments to tailor the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
- Demonstrating proficiency in utilizing media and technology within the classroom.
- Supporting the overall progress and well-being of students while offering guidance on educational matters.
- Engaging with external parties when necessary (e.g., Ministry of Education officials).
- Participating in appraisal and Performance Management processes, as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Collaborating with colleagues to prepare and develop teaching materials, resources, course content, and pastoral arrangements.
- Taking part in, and leading when appropriate, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities within the school, fostering positive working relationships through active leadership and sharing of ideas, materials, and experiences.
- Monitoring and supervising safe and appropriate student behavior, devising strategies to promote self-discipline and manage disruptive conduct.
- Promoting cultural awareness and understanding while fostering a love of learning.
- Assisting in the planning and organization of school events and functions (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days, etc.).
- Regularly communicating with parents to promote the GEMS philosophy and core values, keeping them informed of their children's progress while ensuring the confidentiality of student-related information.
- Demonstrating initiative and commitment beyond the standard work day when tasks demand extra effort.
- Attending staff meetings and serving on committees as required.
- Carrying out additional duties as assigned by direct and dotted line managers/supervisors.
