Math Teacher – Middle School (Term 3)
About This Role
- Uphold and promote the principles and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Implement the prescribed curriculum while demonstrating a comprehensive and current understanding of the subject matter.
- Design and deliver engaging lessons to inspire students, utilizing suitable materials and classroom settings to accommodate various learning preferences.
- Provide written evidence of lesson planning and preparation upon request. Maintain comprehensive records of curriculum outlines, attendance, teaching materials, assessment plans, and other relevant documentation.
- Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.
- Instruct students based on their individual needs using suitable teaching strategies that cater to diverse learning requirements, such as late entrants, English as a Second Language (ESL) learners, students with lower academic abilities, and those who are gifted and talented.
- Assign and evaluate student work. Assess, document, and report on students’ academic growth, progress, and achievements, utilizing assessment outcomes to tailor the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
- Demonstrate proficiency in integrating media and technology within the classroom environment.
- Foster the overall progress and well-being of students, offering guidance on educational issues.
- Engage with external stakeholders as necessary (e.g., officials from the Ministry of Education).
- Participate in performance evaluations and the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) process.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the creation and enhancement of teaching materials, resources, study programs, and pastoral care arrangements.
- Take part in and lead, when appropriate, the school’s co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Promote a collaborative atmosphere through proactive leadership and the sharing of ideas, resources, and experiences.
- Oversee and manage student behavior to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment. Develop and implement strategies to foster self-discipline and address disruptive behavior.
- Exemplify and promote cultural awareness and understanding while instilling a passion for learning.
- Assist in the organization and planning of school events and activities (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, award ceremonies, etc.).
- Regularly communicate and meet with parents to promote the GEMS philosophy and core values, keeping them informed about their child’s progress while maintaining confidentiality regarding student information.
- Demonstrate initiative and commitment beyond standard working hours when tasks require additional effort.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as needed.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by direct and dotted line managers/supervisors.
