Scope of Responsibility

Every member of the GUIS team plays a vital role in creating a safe and developmentally appropriate environment that aligns with the GUIS program philosophy, as well as the school's policies and procedures. The teacher is crucial in delivering exceptional instruction and facilitating both the academic and personal development of students. In accordance with the school’s vision and values, the teacher is responsible for cultivating a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive environment that promotes student success, intellectual curiosity, and a love for learning.

Major Duties:

Safeguarding and Wellbeing:

  • Ensure the safety, well-being, and positive behavior of all participants.
  • Comply with GUIS's safeguarding and child protection protocols.

Key Responsibilities

In accordance with teaching standards relevant to NCPA, teachers are expected to:

  • Plan and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons.
  • Adapt teaching techniques to cater to the strengths and needs of all students.
  • Assess, monitor, and document student progress, employing data-driven strategies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Establish a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning atmosphere to support student growth.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of the school's curriculum and instructional plans.
  • Acknowledge the significance of improving literacy and oracy in all lessons.

Whole-School Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of school policies and practices to align with the school's vision and values, with an emphasis on the Social and Emotional Wellbeing of students.
  • Engage in the broader life and ethos of the school, including extracurricular activities and school events.
  • Attend up to six marketing events throughout the academic year, as required.
  • Provide assistance to other teachers when requested.

Specific NCPA Duties:

  • Teachers are expected to fulfill an average of 22 contact hours per week, which encompasses duties such as classroom instruction, office hours, invigilation, and advisory/homeroom responsibilities. Specific assignments will be determined by the Head of School/Division.
  • Teaching load (80 min/lesson): Maximum of 5 blocks over two days.
  • Office Hour: four hours weekly.
  • Advisory: two sessions of 30 minutes each weekly.
  • Co-Curricular Activities (CCA): 30 hours annually (unpaid).
  • Marketing & Admissions days: up to six unpaid days to assist with marketing events as necessary.

Required Qualifications, Skills, Experience, and Attributes:

  • An internationally recognized teaching qualification.
  • Proficiency in the language of instruction.
  • Strong subject matter expertise and curriculum knowledge in relevant areas.
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons tailored to student needs.
  • Effective classroom management skills, ensuring a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, collaborating effectively with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a desire to enhance teaching practices.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the school and its students.
  • Alignment with the school's vision, values, and commitment to international education.
