About This Role

Swiss International School in Qatar is looking for an exceptional and innovative Secondary Geography Teacher (MYP/DP) for the Academic Year 2025-2026. This presents an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team that is enhancing the Humanities Department at SISQ.

Note: Depending on the candidate's profile, this position may come with additional responsibilities as an Individuals & Societies Subject Lead.

Core Responsibilities:
• All SISQ personnel must comply with the Student Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.
• Promote effective teaching and learning while managing resources, serving as a professional role model within the Humanities Department.

General Responsibilities: As the Secondary Geography Teacher (MYP/DP), you will be expected to:

Manage Learning:
• Show dedication to student learning and safeguarding.
• Exhibit a strong commitment to students' educational journeys.
• Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the subjects you teach and the content delivery.
• Implement differentiation strategies in the classroom.
• Foster inquiry-based learning and concept-oriented instruction.
• Utilize diverse assessments to accurately reflect student learning.
• Take charge of monitoring and managing each student’s academic progress.
• Maintain accurate records of students' work and ensure timely reporting through peer reviews.
• Communicate progress to parents via formal and informal meetings, anecdotal records, incident reports, reflections, feedback, and conferences.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of students and resources under your supervision.

Professional Management of Self, Planning, and Reflection:
• Collaborate with all SISQ staff, showcasing your ability to engage in joint planning and reflection, participating in Secondary School/Whole School meetings and events.
• Ensure thorough planning and delivery of the IB programs of Study, adhering to Scope and Sequence, Areas of Inquiry, and target-setting in accordance with IBO standards to promote learning progression.
• Prepare weekly lesson plans and develop long-term schemes of work for the academic year.
• Consistently implement SISQ policies.
• Maintain a positive demeanor in interactions with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Address parent inquiries or concerns promptly, escalating them when necessary.

Professional Development:
• Share your subject expertise and effective classroom practices with colleagues.
• Engage in personal development opportunities both inside and outside of SISQ to enhance your teaching skills and knowledge.

Resources:
• Create a stimulating and challenging classroom atmosphere with displays that reflect student learning.
• Develop supplementary resources to enhance classroom instruction and support differentiated learning.

Pastoral Care:
• Oversee student supervision during drop-off, after-school childcare, and all break times.
• Celebrate student achievements.
• Promote the IB Attitudes and Profile.
• Address the physical, mental, and emotional needs of students within the school environment.
• Communicate with parents through email, ManageBac, and weekly newsletters as appropriate.

Whole School:
• Actively engage in all school meetings, events, and professional development days.
• Foster and encourage parental involvement in the school through events and conferences.
• Contribute to and promote a positive school atmosphere.

About You: The ideal candidate will possess the following essential attributes:
• A degree in Geography.
• A strong focus on students and a passion for working with middle school learners.
• A collaborative approach to teamwork.
• A commitment to ongoing improvement.
• A dedication to student learning, well-being, and safeguarding.

The following attributes will be considered advantageous:
• Experience teaching IB Diploma, A-Level, or Advanced Placement Geography.
• Background in an international school setting.

In accordance with the Ministry of Education's Circular 13 requirements, candidates must possess:
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Geography or a Bachelor's in Geography and Urban Planning.
• A teaching qualification (PGCE / QTS / Teaching License).
• Be no older than 49 years of age as of August 2025 upon joining the school.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
