At Dehong Secondary School, our educators cultivate a nurturing and adaptable language-rich environment that enhances high-quality learning, fosters student independence, and encourages agency. We seek teachers who are not only passionate about their subject areas but also eager to engage in pastoral duties, serve as form tutors, mentors, and contribute to Qidi extracurricular activities within the school. A full-time teaching position typically involves approximately 18*60 full teaching hours per week, not including QiDi, and the maximum class size is 26 students.

Our School
Dehong Shanghai International Chinese School, the first Dehong establishment in China, is situated in the Minhang District. Since its inception in September 2017, the school has grown to accommodate over 1,000 students across its Elementary and Secondary divisions.

In 2023, we transitioned to a newly constructed Phase II campus that boasts state-of-the-art facilities. These include collaborative learning spaces and dedicated areas for the performing arts, sports, STEAM, and innovation. This expansion allows Dehong Shanghai to grow to a capacity of 1,500 students, with boarding facilities for over 900 students on campus.

Additional Expectations
• Contribute to ongoing innovation and the development of the Dehong curriculum (English medium learning components)
• Lead or support at least one (1) co-curricular activity
• Attend and engage constructively in staff meetings
• Participate in assemblies, celebrations, and extracurricular events (including preparing students/activities)
• Collaborate with colleagues across Dehong schools and Dulwich College International to exchange best practices and participate in network events as appropriate
• Support service learning and sustainability initiatives, events, and programs
• Perform other teaching and learning-related tasks as assigned by the Principal

We are looking for candidates who are
Required Desired Qualifications:
(Essential for China Work Permit)
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant or specialist subject area
• Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or its equivalent
• Master’s degree
• CLIL or EAL qualification or experience
• Qualified Teacher Status in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, or the USA

Skills/Experience:
• Native or near-native fluency in English
• At least 2 years of experience teaching inquiry-based learning (or PYP curriculum) at the Secondary level
• Proven success in working with students in the relevant age group
• For Specialist Teachers, demonstrated experience in their discipline
• Strong understanding of progressive pedagogy
• Effective planning and time management skills
• Innovative and effective use of resources, including educational technology
• Ability to keep students focused and actively engaged in learning
• Positive behavior management skills
• Strong communication and listening abilities
• Flexibility to adapt to different contexts and enthusiasm for collaborating with Chinese colleagues and parents
• Experience teaching EAL/ELL students
• Passion for curriculum study and development
• Demonstrated experience in utilizing diverse assessment and feedback techniques
• Proven track record of raising achievement and establishing aspirational goals
• Prior experience in an international school setting
• Some proficiency in oral Chinese Mandarin is advantageous but not mandatory
• Excellent subject knowledge, particularly in literacy and Secondary school Science (for non-Specialist Teachers)
