Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of students with disabilities. The Special Education Teacher will work in collaboration with general education teachers, support staff, and families to promote an inclusive and supportive educational atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and specialists to craft comprehensive IEPs that address each student’s academic, social, and emotional requirements
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to create engaging lessons that accommodate different learning styles and abilities
- Conduct assessments to track student progress and adjust instructional techniques as necessary while maintaining accurate records of student performance and IEP goals
- Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation and cultivates respect and understanding among peers
- Work closely with general education teachers to ensure the successful integration of students with disabilities into mainstream classrooms
- Attend team meetings and pursue professional development opportunities
- Coordinate with related service providers (such as speech and occupational therapists) to support the overall growth of students
- Maintain consistent communication with families to provide updates on student progress and encourage their involvement in the educational process
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with a focus on Special Education
- Valid Professional “A” Teaching Certificate
- Strong knowledge of Saulteaux Culture is preferred, or a willingness to learn
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- A commitment to innovative and flexible teaching methods that cater to the diverse needs of students
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage actively with the community
