About This Role
Liger Academy is seeking a science facilitator for a fixed-term position starting in Term 3, 2026 and ending in December 2027.
Liger Academy is a small, innovative secondary school in Queenstown that blends project-based learning, entrepreneurship, and real-world challenges. Students explore complex problems, work closely with mentors and community partners, and develop the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Liger Academy will close at the conclusion of the 2027 school year, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to students’ final learning journeys.
The Role
2026 responsibilities include:
- Facilitating Year 10 and Year 11 science
- Teaching Year 12 biology
- Participating in the Wednesday kaitiaki programme, supporting student wellbeing and mentoring.
In 2027, the role transitions to a more flexible learning model where the facilitator will:
- Teach Year 13 biology or physics
- Guide students through online science learning pathways
- Mentor students undertaking independent study
Students will access digital science courses while the facilitator provides expert guidance, feedback, and opportunities for hands-on experiments.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate science learning for Years 10–12 (2026)
- Teach Year 13 biology or physics (2027)
- Support experiments, investigations, and inquiry learning
- Mentor students through independent learning
- Participate in the kaitiaki pastoral programme
- Collaborate with colleagues on exploration projects
The role also includes maintaining safe laboratory environments, preparing materials and equipment, managing chemical storage and inventory, maintaining safety data sheets, and ensuring compliance with Ministry of Education and Health and Safety at Work Act (2015) requirements.
