About This Role
Curriculum and Instruction
- Develop and implement engaging, inquiry-based lessons that meet the MYP Physical and Health Education objectives and assessment criteria.
- Deliver a well-rounded PHE curriculum designed to enhance students’ physical capabilities, health literacy, teamwork skills, and appreciation for lifelong health.
- Design learning opportunities that promote movement proficiency, personal fitness, teamwork, and responsible decision-making in physical and health contexts.
- Integrate Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills while fostering the attributes of the IB Learner Profile through physical activity and health education.
- Adapt teaching methods to suit the varying physical abilities, learning preferences, and backgrounds of students.
- Promote safe participation in all physical activities, ensuring effective risk management and supervision at all times.
- Leverage technology and digital tools where appropriate to enrich learning, assess performance, and encourage self-reflection.
Assessment and Reporting
- Create and execute assessments that conform to MYP Physical and Health Education guidelines and moderation requirements.
- Utilize both formative and summative assessments to track student progress in physical skills and conceptual understanding.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to assist students in developing skills, setting goals, and reflecting on their personal growth.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and engagement.
- Prepare and present thorough student reports and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
Learning Environment and Student Support
- Cultivate a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes participation, teamwork, and mutual respect.
- Motivate students to build confidence, resilience, and personal responsibility through physical activity and health education.
- Encourage student input, choice, and goal setting within their physical learning journeys.
- Assist in supporting students’ physical, social, emotional, and academic development through proactive pastoral care.
- Collaborate with the learning support team to implement necessary accommodations and modifications for students.
- Ensure all activities are carried out safely, with students understanding safety protocols related to equipment, facilities, and personal safety.
Collaboration and Professionalism
- Work in conjunction with MYP colleagues and across subject areas to enrich interdisciplinary units and school-wide health and wellness initiatives.
- Participate in the development and assessment of MYP PHE curriculum documents, unit plans, and evaluation strategies.
- Contribute to school sports programs, extracurricular activities, or health-related initiatives as appropriate.
- Engage in professional development opportunities, attend staff meetings, and contribute to school-wide projects.
- Maintain effective communication with parents, students, and colleagues.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, and a commitment to the school’s mission and values.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
- A relevant bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Health Education, or a related field, complemented by a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- A minimum of 2 years teaching experience, preferably in a middle years or international educational setting.
- Experience in teaching Physical and Health Education across various age groups.
- Familiarity or training in the IB Middle Years Programme is highly advantageous, particularly in the Physical and Health Education domain.
- Strong grasp of inquiry-based learning and concept-driven curriculum design.
- Proficient in assessment literacy and criterion-referenced evaluation practices.
- Knowledgeable about safety protocols in physical activity and sports instruction.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal abilities.
