About This Role
Job Purpose
The Head of Foundation Stage at GCS is responsible for guiding the strategic development, execution, and ongoing enhancement of Early Years provision (FS1 and FS2) within a British curriculum framework. This position guarantees high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment that align with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) and UAE regulatory requirements, creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where every child can flourish.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Direct and manage the Foundation Stage team, fostering a culture of high expectations, teamwork, and ongoing improvement.
- Design and execute the EYFS curriculum and strategic plan in line with the overall priorities of the school.
- Supervise FS teachers and support staff, focusing on performance management, coaching, and professional growth.
- Participate in whole-school leadership as a member of the GCS Primary Leadership Team.
- Ensure adherence to UAE regulatory standards (SPEA/MOE) and safeguarding protocols.
Teaching and Learning
- Guarantee high-quality, play-based, and inquiry-led teaching in FS1 and FS2 that aligns with EYFS principles.
- Oversee planning, teaching, and assessment to ensure consistency, progression, and challenge for all students.
- Advocate for best practices in early years pedagogy, including continuous provision, child-initiated learning, and effective adult interactions.
- Assist staff in catering to the diverse needs of all learners, including EAL, gifted and talented, and students of determination.
Curriculum and Assessment
- Supervise the design, execution, and evaluation of a comprehensive, balanced, and engaging EYFS curriculum.
- Ensure effective baseline, formative, and summative assessment strategies, including precise tracking and moderation.
- Analyze data to guide teaching, interventions, and strategic planning.
- Facilitate smooth transition processes into and out of the Foundation Stage.
Safeguarding and Wellbeing
- Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning atmosphere that promotes children’s wellbeing and development.
- Collaborate closely with the GCS Designated Safeguarding Lead and inclusion team to support vulnerable students.
Parental Engagement
- Establish strong partnerships with GCS families, ensuring clear communication regarding children’s progress and wellbeing.
- Lead workshops, meetings, and transition events for parents.
- Address parental inquiries and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
Operational Management
- Oversee the daily organization of the Foundation Stage, including scheduling, staffing, and resource management.
- Ensure that indoor and outdoor learning environments are stimulating, well-equipped, and adhere to EYFS best practices.
- Manage budgets and resources efficiently.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; EYFS specialization preferred
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent qualification
- Minimum of 5 years’ teaching experience, including experience in Early Years
- Proven leadership experience in EYFS or Primary settings
- Experience in a British curriculum international school is desirable
