Class Teacher- Fixed-Term to cover maternity leave
About This Role
At Avalon, we are seeking an exceptional and compassionate teacher to join our team on a maternity cover basis. This role is much more than just teaching; it is about understanding every child's unique way of communicating, learning and experiencing the world.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating highly personalised learning experiences for children and young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties. The successful candidate will recognise that communication is at the heart of everything we do and will be committed to developing meaningful interactions through total communication approaches, intensive interaction, AAC, sensory engagement and responsive, relationship-based practice.
You will bring creativity, patience and curiosity to the classroom, delivering a rich sensory curriculum that promotes engagement, independence, wellbeing and joy in learning.
Working within a highly multidisciplinary environment, you will value the integral role of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, healthcare in enabling our pupils to thrive. You will work closely with therapists, families and support staff to ensure that therapy, communication and care targets are seamlessly woven into daily learning opportunities.

Bower Learning Partnership is a Federation of 2 special schools; Polden Bower School in Bridgwater, Avalon School in Street. The partnership works closely with the Pupil Referral Units in Somerset as part of its leadership work. Being part of a partnership, provides opportunities for staff to gain wider professional learning opportunities.
