About IBSB
Located in the vibrant heart of the city, IBSB is celebrated for its outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments. We take pride in being Romania's first British DfE-inspected school, the first international institution accredited by the Romanian Ministry of Education, and a fully accredited member of COBIS and AoBSO. Additionally, we are the first HPL-accredited school and the inaugural NACE Challenge Award School in Romania.
Following an ISI inspection in September 2022, IBSB was awarded the highest rating of 'Excellent' for the 'Quality of Education.' Notably, 57% of our IGCSE students achieved grades in the A-A* range, while 95% of our graduates gained admission to the top 5% of universities worldwide. Our student population consists of around 500 students, with 65% being Romanian and 35% international, representing over 30 different countries.
Living in Romania
Romania is recognized as one of Europe's most attractive destinations for both living and working. The Romanian populace is known for their friendliness and hospitality, with many individuals being well-educated and fluent in several languages, including English.
The country experiences all four seasons and is home to beautiful beaches, Europe’s last remaining mountain wilderness, and numerous ski resorts located just over 90 minutes from Bucharest. Visitors can wander through picturesque old towns with cobblestone streets, explore a rich variety of castles and monasteries, and enjoy more sunny days than rainy ones. Notably, King Charles III has two residences in Romania, describing it as one of his favorite destinations—being the first country he visited after his coronation.
Romania’s central position within the EU facilitates affordable travel, with airlines like Ryanair and Wizzair offering routes to major cities for under 100 euros when booked in advance, including return flights to the UK. Moreover, teachers often find it feasible to save a substantial portion of their salaries, frequently more than in other Mediterranean countries such as Spain, Italy, or Greece.
Life in Bucharest
The capital city provides a safe and clean environment for both living and working, featuring an efficient public transport system, including metro and tram services, with a monthly pass costing approximately 20 euros (students ride for free). Bucharest is safe for evening outings and offers a variety of weekend activities. Shopping malls throughout the city host Western brands and restaurants at significantly lower prices than in Western Europe, allowing for a more enjoyable lifestyle.
International educators typically earn 2-3 times the average salary, making it easier to save. Dining out is reasonably priced, with a typical two-course meal and a drink costing around 15 euros, which is why many of our international staff enjoy dining out weekly.
Additionally, it is possible for teachers to purchase their own apartments by the end of their first contract, as many staff members have successfully accomplished this.
Teaching at IBSB
Students at IBSB generally display above-average academic abilities and maintain good behavior, creating a positive teaching atmosphere. The school enjoys strong support from both the administration and parents, including a dedicated Parent Association that has organized various events.
