About This Role
Curriculum and Instruction
•
Design and execute dynamic, inquiry-driven lessons that align with MYP Physical and Health Education objectives and assessment standards.
•
Provide a comprehensive PHE curriculum aimed at enhancing students’ physical skills, health knowledge, collaborative abilities, and understanding of lifelong wellness.
•
Create learning experiences that foster movement skills, personal fitness, teamwork, and responsible decision-making within physical and health contexts.
•
Incorporate Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills and assist in nurturing the attributes of the IB Learner Profile through physical activity and health education.
•
Tailor instruction to accommodate the diverse physical abilities, learning styles, and backgrounds of students.
•
Encourage safe involvement in all physical activities, ensuring proper risk management and supervision at all times.
•
Utilize technology and digital resources as appropriate to enhance learning, performance evaluation, and self-reflection.
Assessment and Reporting
•
Develop and implement assessments that adhere to MYP Physical and Health Education criteria and moderation standards.
•
Employ both formative and summative assessments to monitor student advancement in physical abilities and conceptual understanding.
•
Offer timely and constructive feedback to support students in skill development, goal setting, and self-reflection regarding their personal growth.
•
Keep precise records of student performance and participation.
•
Prepare and deliver accurate student reports and engage in parent-teacher conferences.
Learning Environment and Student Support
•
Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages participation, teamwork, and mutual respect.
•
Inspire students to cultivate confidence, resilience, and personal accountability through physical activity and health education.
•
Encourage student input, choice, and goal setting within their physical learning experiences.
•
Support students’ physical, social, emotional, and academic growth through proactive pastoral care.
•
Work alongside the learning support team to implement necessary accommodations and modifications.
•
Ensure all activities are conducted safely and that students comprehend safety expectations concerning equipment use, facilities, and personal safety.
Collaboration and Professionalism
•
Collaborate with MYP team members and other subject areas to enhance interdisciplinary units and school-wide health and wellbeing initiatives.
•
Contribute to the creation and evaluation of MYP PHE curriculum documents, unit plans, and assessment methods.
•
Support school sports programs, extracurricular activities, or health-related initiatives as appropriate.
•
Engage in professional development, staff meetings, and school-wide projects.
•
Communicate effectively with parents, students, and colleagues.
•
Exemplify professionalism, ethical behavior, and a commitment to the school’s mission and values.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
•
A relevant bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Health Education, or a related field, along with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education or an equivalent teaching qualification.
•
At least 2 years of teaching experience, ideally in a middle years or international school environment.
•
Experience in teaching Physical and Health Education to a variety of age groups.
•
Experience or training in the IB Middle Years Programme is highly desirable, specifically within the Physical and Health Education subject area.
•
A solid understanding of inquiry-based learning and concept-driven curriculum development.
•
Strong assessment literacy and familiarity with criterion-referenced evaluation.
•
Knowledge of safe practices in physical activity and sport instruction.
•
Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
