Duties and Responsibilities
The Coach of Teaching and Learning (Primary School) (CTL) is responsible for enhancing teaching effectiveness at CAIS by promoting the professional growth of fellow educators. This role may include:
• Assisting and mentoring novice teachers in developing and demonstrating effective teaching practices using the Growth Matrix while fostering an inspiring learning environment that engages students;
• Supporting colleagues by sharing successful teaching strategies and nurturing an interactive learning atmosphere;
• Helping teachers expand their skills, knowledge, and attributes to improve their teaching effectiveness;
• Encouraging collaborative, reflective, and shared practices;
• Leading professional learning and development initiatives across the school.
Qualifications and Experience
The CTL role may involve various forms of support, such as:
Coaching, leading professional learning groups, facilitating professional reading and discussion sessions, developing reflective practices, conducting classroom observations, mentoring novice educators, creating classroom management strategies, and spearheading professional learning programs within the school.

The CTL role designates 0.6 full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position, with an additional 0.4 FTE allocated to teaching and preparation. The Primary School CTL collaborates weekly with the High School CTL.
Role Expectations
The primary focus for the CTL is to work individually with staff to refine instructional strategies and pedagogy. While participation in various meetings with teams or senior leaders is necessary, these should be limited. Such meetings should be intentionally centered on CTL responsibilities.
• Attendance at Upper Primary Camps is not mandatory.
• Participation in admissions events, including Saturday events, is expected.
• Attendance at chapels or managing small groups is not required.
• Lead one assembly per grade each semester.
• No after-school extracurricular activities are needed.
• Assist with one Primary School event.
• Engage in new teacher induction alongside the Senior Leadership Team and explain the CTL role in coordination with the High School CTL.
• Meet with Primary Senior Leaders bi-weekly to discuss CTL responsibilities, generating the agenda and leading discussions on pertinent topics.
• The CTL will cover one hour of class time per grade team leader weekly, allowing them to observe their team members. Team leaders must allocate one hour of teaching time for the CTL to visit classrooms within their grade.
• The Primary Principal will clearly communicate to team leaders that the CTL does not need permission to collaborate with staff, although they will be informed as a courtesy.
• Provide substitutes for classes and/or duties when necessary.
• Each PTI will focus on supporting new staff in the morning and planning in the afternoon.
• Assist in organizing Primary School Professional Development alongside the Primary School Senior Leadership Team.
• Submit a mid-year report to the Registered Management Committee (RMC) Education and School Advancement Subcommittee.
• Attend Back to School night to support new educators and participate in all regular school events (e.g., Carnival) that educators attend.
Effective Date of Appointment
The position is set to begin in mid-August 2026. The initial contract will typically be for two years, with the possibility of renewable two-year contracts based on mutual agreement.
