Reporting Structure
You will report to the Head of Primary, Head of Secondary, and the Cambridge Principal regarding all aspects of the role.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for the designated students in your assigned Music classes.
Key Responsibilities
Learning and Teaching
- Work in collaboration with the Head of Primary, Head of Secondary, and fellow educators to plan, prepare, teach, and assess curricula as outlined by the National Curriculum of England and Wales (within an international context) and exam board standards for internal assessments and external examinations.
- Ensure that all lesson planning and preparation caters to the unique needs of every student.
- Employ a variety of teaching and learning strategies aligned with the BCIS Learning Principles to fulfill curricular objectives and accommodate the diverse needs of students through differentiation and group dynamics.
- Create a learning environment that reflects the BCIS Learning Principles.
- Provide consistent feedback and ensure that student work is marked and assessed following School and Subject Policies, including assessment for learning (AfL) practices.
- Review assessment outcomes and use this data to inform planning for individual students and classes as a whole.
- Assign homework regularly, relevant to the subject matter, in compliance with the school's Homework Policy, to reinforce and enhance students' learning while encouraging them to take ownership of their education.
- Take responsibility for assessing, documenting, and reporting on student progress, in line with school and subject policies.
- Organize field trips and events related to the subject to enrich students' educational experiences.
- Prepare suitable cover work for your absences.
- Provide coverage for absent colleagues as required, ensuring fairness and equity.
Communication
- Regularly engage with other Music department members and teachers for discussions, feedback, and planning sessions.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with EAL teachers to ensure smooth transitions from the immersion program to Music classes.
- Work cooperatively with learning support/SEN teachers.
- Foster and facilitate positive relationships between home and school.
- Communicate with parents during consultation meetings and through end-of-year reports.
- Be available to parents at mutually agreed times as needed.
Professional Development
- Participate in the school, department, and individual review process (School Self-Evaluation).
- Actively seek out professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in the UK and globally.
- Attend meetings, workshops, and courses offered within the school to support the School Improvement Plan.
- Take part in whole-school vertical meetings involving primary and secondary staff.
- Provide relevant CPD/professional learning opportunities for colleagues as necessary.
