About This Role

The position of PE and Swimming Teacher requires the necessary skills, qualifications, and training to instruct students ranging from primary to middle school levels. Additional experience or training in high school and related fields is viewed as beneficial.

Knowledge and Understanding:

- Either:

A) The applicant must hold a qualification certificate from the Department of National Education in China. In accordance with China's New National Curriculum Standards, Chinese PE and Sport Education teachers are expected to significantly adapt their teaching philosophies and methods. They should assist students in learning through hands-on experiences, accommodate diverse learning styles, enhance and integrate educational materials, spark students' interest in learning, and promote collaborative learning to enable knowledge sharing.

Or

B) A thorough understanding of PE and Swimming is required, along with experience in either national or international curricula (such as CNC, IPC, IMYC, PYP/MYP/IBDP; IGCSE, British NC, or equivalents).

- The ability to guide and support student inquiries in Sports and Health, promoting inquiry-based learning within their specialized subjects.

- Familiarity with curriculum and assessment development related to PE, Swimming, and Creative activities.

Planning and Setting Expectations:

- Define clear teaching objectives, content, lesson formats, and sequences relevant to the subject matter and student needs.

- Establish high and appropriate expectations for student participation and learning.

- Set specific learning goals for students, building on their past achievements and experiences.

- Recognize and accommodate students with special educational needs, whether they require foundational support or advanced learning opportunities.

- If necessary, implement and maintain Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

- Collaborate with colleagues in other subjects to establish learning objectives for various topics, themes, and interdisciplinary projects.

- Additional responsibilities include aiding in the creation of online resources, fulfilling administrative duties, and contributing to PE and Sport applications, as well as interdisciplinary course development.

Teaching and Managing Student Learning:

- Ensure effective instruction for classes, small groups, and individual students, meeting teaching objectives while maintaining momentum and efficient use of teaching time.

- Utilize teaching strategies that align with inquiry-based learning to engage students, including stimulating curiosity, effective questioning, clear presentations, and appropriate resource utilization.

- Uphold high behavioral expectations, establishing a strong discipline standard through focused and inspiring teaching while fostering positive and productive relationships.

- Promote positive behavioral patterns, enhance self-esteem, and encourage independent learning among students to support their educational development.

Assessment and Evaluation:

- Assessments and evaluations of swimming programs should align with national curriculum standards, focusing on students' ability to apply knowledge to real-world problems.

- Monitor both learning progress and outcomes, using assessments to inform future teaching and learning tasks.

- Grade, document, and track student assignments and homework, providing constructive feedback and setting appropriate progress targets.

- When applicable, be aware of the expectations set for students concerning national curriculum and international standards.

Relations with Parents and the Community:

- Be adept at preparing and delivering high-quality, informative reports to parents.

- Recognize that learning extends beyond the classroom and create opportunities for students to connect their educational experiences to relevant real-world examples.

- Understand the significance of building effective relationships with school agencies and community partners.

Managing Personal Performance and Development:

- Acknowledge the importance of taking responsibility for their professional development and staying updated on research and advancements in pedagogy and subject areas.

- Understand professional responsibilities concerning school policies, guidelines, and practices.

- Serve as a positive role model for students in both demeanor and conduct.

- Critically evaluate their own teaching practices and use this reflection to improve their effectiveness.

Managing and Developing Staff and Other Adults:

- Cultivate effective working relationships with professional colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist instructors, and support staff to foster a vibrant and engaging professional learning community.

Managing Resources:

- Select and effectively use books, equipment, technology, and other educational materials that support teaching and learning objectives.

- Assist in maintaining an up-to-date inventory of learning resources and materials, including classroom hardware and software.

These responsibilities are included in daily teaching load assignments, ensuring that teacher preparation time is protected to maintain a responsible and appropriate professional duty of care for all educators and staff.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
