About This Role

Head of Primary German (m/f/d)

St. George’s School is on the lookout for a dynamic leader to head the German department in our Primary School, with the position set to commence in August 2026.

The School

Founded in September 2013, St. George’s School Munich has rapidly developed into a lively community, boasting over 800 students and 100 educators. The institution is committed to delivering a comprehensive curriculum enriched by a family-oriented approach, creating a welcoming and engaging environment for both staff and students.

In September 2017, the school embarked on an exciting new journey by relocating to a purpose-built campus located in the city center. This state-of-the-art facility provides outstanding educational resources for learners of all ages and disciplines.

The school adheres to the National Curriculum, and IGCSE qualifications are offered to Upper School students. Sixth Form pupils are prepared for the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

As a member of a network comprising three schools across Germany, St. George’s provides the successful candidate with numerous professional development and advancement opportunities within the school group.

The Location

Our newly established campus is located in the Schwabing-Freimann district, conveniently positioned just north of Munich’s city center. This location offers easy access to the U6 metro line and the A9 motorway.

Munich, the capital of Bavaria and Germany's third-largest city, is a vibrant cultural center with a diverse international community. Nestled at the northern edge of the Alps, it boasts a high quality of life and a wealth of travel and outdoor activity options.

Munich Airport is situated 30km from the school, providing numerous daily flights to the UK, while high-speed train connections make travel to various European destinations effortless.

The Role

We are eager to appoint a skilled professional to oversee the German Department in our Primary School. This role presents an exciting opportunity for an innovative and forward-thinking educator.

The ideal candidate will be a dedicated teacher with prior leadership experience. We are looking for an individual who embodies a combination of expertise, enthusiasm, and a passion for teaching that will inspire both students and colleagues.

Fluency in English and familiarity with the English National Curriculum are essential. A strong interest in engaging with the department’s lively extracurricular activities would be advantageous.

Given the school’s dynamic and evolving nature, flexibility and a readiness to support fellow team members are vital. A dedication to enhancing the school's enriching pastoral and extracurricular framework will also be beneficial.

German is a key component of our curriculum and is mandatory for all primary school students. Although English serves as the primary medium of instruction, we expect all pupils to attain a high level of fluency and literacy in the local language.

German is taught at various levels, with classes divided between native speakers and those learning it as a second language. Second language learners follow an accelerated curriculum aimed at achieving proficiency, while first language learners adhere to the local German curriculum.
