The successful candidate will be instrumental in establishing the Lower Prep Department at Cheltenham Muscat as the leading choice in the city. This role offers an outstanding opportunity for a committed educator to help shape Cheltenham Muscat into a premier school in Oman.

The School
Opened in September 2021, Cheltenham Muscat stands as Oman’s first premium British school, serving boys and girls aged 3 to 18. Situated on a modern campus, both students and educators benefit from exceptional facilities for academic and extracurricular pursuits, backed by our partner, Cheltenham College, which boasts a history of delivering excellent education for over 180 years.
The Person
We seek a passionate educator who is motivated to inspire our outstanding students. Reporting directly to the Head of Prep School, the Head of Lower Prep (KS2) will create an environment that embodies the school’s values and ethos. The ideal candidate will ensure the highest standards of student achievement by setting ambitious goals for both colleagues and pupils. Furthermore, the Head of Lower Prep will work closely with the Principal to enhance the school's profile and assist with student admissions to Cheltenham Muscat.
This position will also contribute to the school’s broader strategic vision through collaboration with the Head of Upper Prep and the Head of Prep-prep. It is perfect for driven and talented individuals who have consistently delivered excellent results for children in primary, prep, or all-through educational environments, whether in the UK or abroad. While previous leadership experience is a plus, it is not essential.
Leadership
The Head of Lower Prep will oversee the day-to-day management of class teachers for Grades 3-5, which includes:
- Offering guidance and support to staff regarding parents, students, and colleagues;
- Facilitating the onboarding process for new Lower Prep staff;
- Leading phase meetings and reporting to the Head of Prep;
- Conducting resource audits and participating in the annual overseas teaching resource order;
- Ensuring a robust presence for the phase within the school and through parent communications/events;
- Assisting the Director of Co-curricular in planning events, trips, and activities.
Academic
The Head of Lower Prep is responsible for ensuring significant progress for all pupils in their phase, guaranteeing high-quality teaching and learning while overseeing curriculum development. Duties include:
- Acting as a strong role model through exemplary classroom practice;
- Committing to ongoing professional development and leading in-house CPD;
- Mentoring staff and coordinating performance assessments;
- Providing support to Lower Prep form teachers as needed;
- Conducting pupil progress meetings to assess student performance across the phase;
- Ensuring teachers maintain a comprehensive overview of each student’s academic journey, planning interventions when needed;
- Supervising the preparation and proofreading of termly reports;
- Assisting other leadership team members in evaluating the quality of teaching and learning in the Lower Prep phase;
- Teaching a class in Grades 3-5 with a reduced timetable.
