As Deputy Housemaster / Deputy Housemistress, you will work closely with the Housemaster or Housemistress to create a home that radiates warmth, structure, and purpose. You will establish the atmosphere for daily activities, offering guidance, encouragement, and care—whether during morning routines, weekend events, or evening check-ins.
In the absence of the Housemaster or Housemistress, you will ensure the smooth operation of the house, ensuring that every student feels acknowledged, respected, and empowered.
This role is fundamentally centered on people. You will act as a mentor and role model, providing a constant presence during a critical time in the lives of young individuals—socially, emotionally, and personally.
This position combines pastoral leadership with a reduced teaching load, alongside active involvement in the school's co-curricular activities, ranging from creative projects to alpine excursions.
We are looking for an empathetic, dedicated, and collaborative individual who thrives in a boarding environment and is passionate about guiding young people towards becoming confident, kind, and resilient individuals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following outlines the primary duties and responsibilities associated with this role. These are not exhaustive and may evolve based on the skills of the post holder and the needs of the school.
As Deputy Housemaster / Deputy Housemistress:
• Support the Housemaster / Housemistress in overseeing the pastoral care of students in their residence, manage the house in their absence, and play a pivotal role in daily operations.
• Build strong, trust-based relationships within the house.
• Establish effective communication with parents of students in the house, proactively engaging them alongside the Housemaster / Housemistress.
• Gain experience and skills that will aid in a future career in boarding education.
• Share and develop best practices informed by your expertise.
• Champion the broader aspirations and values of the school.
• Teach a limited number of classes.
• Contribute to school life beyond the classroom by actively participating in weekend activities and residential trips as appropriate.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• A degree-level qualification is required.
• Teaching or additional professional qualifications are favorable.

• Proven experience in teaching and boarding environments.
