Curriculum Lead Teacher Maths (MPR/UPR + SEN1) with TLR 2b
The Governors of Manchester Secondary Pupil Referral Unit are looking for a passionate, resilient, and dedicated teacher to join our team in September 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.
As the Curriculum Lead Teacher for Maths, you will play a critical role in delivering our ambitious curriculum from one of our Learning Centres, while also overseeing the Maths Curriculum across all of our city locations. Your responsibilities will include:
- Demonstrating high-quality first teaching of Maths to students at your Learning Centre.
- Providing pastoral support to students at your Centre.
- Ensuring the quality of curriculum delivery across your Centre through various monitoring and evaluation activities throughout the academic year.
- Collaborating with MSPRU’s SEND department to identify learning barriers for students and planning appropriate interventions to help every student reach their full potential.
Manchester Secondary Pupil Referral Unit provides ‘New Beginnings and Positive Futures’ for young people who have been Permanently Excluded from their mainstream schools. Many of these students are vulnerable and may have complex learning, behavioral, or emotional needs. We actively work with parents and a diverse range of partner agencies and stakeholders to advocate for our students and ensure the best possible outcomes for each individual.
We operate as one school across five sites in the City and also partner with two College locations. Many of our teachers conduct lessons across several Centres, and all teachers may be assigned to teach at any site at the discretion of the Headteacher.

The ideal candidate will possess:
- A vision for driving the school forward and a proven history of managing change effectively.
- Successful experience in delivering GCSE/Functional Skills Level 2.
- Insight into the barriers faced by children with SEMH and their families, along with strategies to support their emotional well-being.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the National Curriculum.
- The capability to develop and implement policies and practices that reflect the school’s commitment to high achievement, effective teaching, and learning.
- Experience in planning and leading teaching and learning initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- The ability to organize, plan, and prioritize your own workload effectively.
- Adaptability in teaching to meet the diverse needs of pupils.
- Familiarity with guidance and requirements regarding child safeguarding.
- A commitment to achieving excellence for all students.
