• Assist the academy in achieving its overarching vision and strategic objectives, contributing to the fulfillment of targets outlined in the academy’s improvement plan and self-evaluation form.

• Comply with health and safety regulations at work and adhere to academy policies regarding safe working practices and equal opportunities.

• Implement the academy's Performance Management Policy, ensuring the establishment of ambitious annual targets and serving as a performance management reviewer as directed by the principal.

• Engage in annual training related to child protection, safeguarding, and health and safety, as well as any additional training deemed necessary for academy improvement or performance management.

• Consistently adhere to the academy's staff dress code, which requires wearing a photo ID/lanyard.

• Follow the academy's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) regarding computer usage at all times.

• Guide the strategic direction and growth of the department, which includes vision setting, data analysis, improvement planning, target setting, and continuous self-evaluation.

• Foster an exceptional culture of teaching and learning to guarantee outstanding achievement for all students.

• Lead and manage staff, including overseeing recruitment, performance assessments, and professional development.

• Enhance the profile of the department through marketing initiatives to increase student enrollment.

• Maintain proactive and effective communication with all stakeholders.

• Attend all staff meetings.

• Sign in and out at the relevant academy reception if off-site during the regular working day.

• Perform additional duties as reasonably assigned by the Principal or Head of School.

• Create policies and practices that yield high-quality outcomes for students across all Key Stages within the department.

• Ensure that practices promote student progression, enhanced achievements, a positive ethos, and a shared commitment among staff.

• Share the responsibility of representing the Department in cross-curricular committees, such as EAL link.

• Empower and provide strategic direction to the Heads of Subjects as necessary.

• Monitor and assess student progress using appropriate data, home learning assignments, student feedback, lesson observations, student work reviews, and parental engagement.

• Identify individual training needs through Performance Management and ensure those needs are addressed.

• Seek external advice and expertise to further enhance the learning agenda and promote student progress, achievement, and standards.

• Lead the development of the curriculum and allocation of resources.

• Ensure the development, implementation, and ongoing review of relevant schemes of work for all year groups and courses, including adequate provisions for SEN/POD, G&T, and EAL students.

• Prepare students thoroughly for examinations and other assessments.

• Organize key events and extracurricular activities to stimulate student interest in the subject.

• Ensure effective assessments, moderation, data collation, and analysis in accordance with the MER calendar and quality assurance protocols.

• Analyze and interpret relevant school data to inform policies and contribute to department/school SEF writing.

• Monitor student progress and achievement against targets, identifying underperforming students and developing and implementing effective action plans to support them.

• Maintain effective communication with parents through various channels and ensure high-quality communication from all department members, including reports, PTCs, emails, and letters.

• Lead the Heads of Subject as applicable.

• Establish clear expectations and foster constructive working relationships with colleagues at all levels within the Department.

• Develop responsibilities and delegate tasks appropriately.

• Oversee the professional development of identified staff, enabling all members to achieve expertise in Learning and Teaching.

• Promote a culture of team spirit and appreciation through high praise and rewards.

• Collaborate with the SLT to ensure that departmental systems and practices align with whole academy policies and the commitment to achieving excellence.

• Participate in marketing and liaison activities such as Open Evenings/Afternoons, Parent-Teacher Consultations, and events with partner Academies.

• Act as an Academic Mentor or form tutor.

• Engage in the staff duty rota.

• Provide coverage for absent colleagues.

• Supervise examinations as required.

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in the related subject area along with a PGCE or another teaching qualification.

• Have a minimum of 6 years of experience leading the English National Curriculum, including experience in GCSE and A Level, as well as BTEC Sport Level 2 & 3.

• Possess prior experience working with students for whom English is a second language.

• Demonstrate a strong passion for teaching and a commitment to the holistic education of every child.

• Exhibit high levels of professionalism and consideration for the well-being of children.

• Show recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
