CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Professional Knowledge: Show a thorough understanding of the curriculum, subject matter, and developmental needs of students by providing relevant learning opportunities that challenge students to utilize higher-level skills.

• Instructional Planning: Utilize the school’s curriculum along with effective strategies, resources, and data to cater to the diverse needs of all students. Ensure lessons are meticulously planned with differentiated instruction, engaging content, and promote a love for learning.

• Instructional Delivery: Actively engage students in their learning by employing various differentiated instructional methods tailored to individual learning requirements. Provide additional support for students needing extra assistance and collaborate with colleagues, including EAL and learning differences specialists, to address the learning needs of every student. Challenge and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.

• Assessment of/for Learning: Systematically collect, analyze, and utilize data to evaluate student progress and learning. Use this information to guide instruction, offer timely feedback, enhance personal teaching practices, and support curriculum development to achieve academic excellence for both students and the school.

• Learning Environment: Implement resources, routines, and procedures to create a respectful, positive, safe, and student-centered atmosphere that fosters learning. Collaborate with colleagues to develop teaching and learning materials for students at various levels, including online Virtual Learning Environment resources, to meet students’ learning needs and adhere to the agreed curriculum for shared departmental use.

• Professionalism: Uphold a commitment to professional ethics, international-mindedness, and the school’s core values and philosophy, actively engaging in professional development that enhances student learning.

• Communication and Advocacy: Effectively communicate with students, school staff, families, and the broader community to promote and advocate for student learning.

• Student Progress: Ensure that student progress is both acceptable and measurable by setting challenging academic goals based on student data, monitoring progress throughout the year, and assessing end-of-year goal achievements.

• Pastoral Care: Create a safe and stimulating environment for students based on mutual respect, modeling high behavioral standards. Support the school’s culture of high attendance and engagement, ensuring comprehensive pastoral care and well-being for every student. Liaise with parents, guardians, and external agencies as needed.

• Community Engagement: Fully commit to The Experience, our extensive co-curricular program, and contribute to activities that enhance the student experience, consistent with contractual obligations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Implement the objectives of the relevant program(s).

• Apply concept-based learning in subject delivery.

• Design student-centered classes that are inquiry-based, conceptually focused, contextualized, collaborative, differentiated, and informed by assessment.

• Work with the Learning Support Department to plan differentiated instruction for students with IEPs and EAL needs.

• Collaborate with educators from various departments and year levels to build interdisciplinary connections.

• Foster international mindedness throughout the curriculum.

• Promote The Lisboan attributes within and beyond the curriculum.

• Plan field trips as necessary to enhance program implementation, leveraging Lisbon as an extension of the classroom.

• Conduct pre-visit assessments of potential field trip locations and complete risk assessment requirements.

• Assign homework and projects on the school platform in a timely fashion.

• Attend all mandatory meetings.

• Serve as a homeroom advisor to a designated group of students.

• Record attendance, complete reports, document behavioral incidents and accidents, and communicate with parents per school policies.

• Teach assigned classes/sessions in alignment with contracted expectations.

• Participate in student supervision, including assigned duties.

• Contribute to the school’s Experience program.

• Be available for substitute teaching during the school day when not engaged in other specific classes/sessions/meetings.

• Carry out any additional related responsibilities assigned by the business or line manager.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant subject(s).

• Qualified to teach in the appropriate age range and subject area.

• Experience teaching in the relevant age group, preferably within an international context.

• Experience engaging and supporting parents as partners in their children’s education.

• Strong IT skills are preferred; good IT skills are essential.

• Consistently demonstrate high standards of personal and professional conduct.

• Fluent in English, both verbal and written, with excellent communication skills.
