About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to become a part of our Middle/High School team. The start date for this position is set for 01 August 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Uphold and promote the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Deliver the prescribed curriculum, showcasing thorough and current knowledge of both curriculum and subject matter.
- Plan and implement engaging lessons that inspire students, while creating and utilizing suitable materials and classroom environments to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Provide written evidence of planning and preparation upon request. Maintain comprehensive records of curriculum and yearly plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment strategies, etc.
- Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.
- Teach assigned students based on their individual needs, employing suitable teaching strategies that address varying student abilities, including late-entry students, ESL learners, those with lower academic skills, and gifted students.
- Assign and evaluate work. Assess, document, and report on students' academic growth, progress, and achievements, utilizing assessment data to tailor the curriculum to each student's needs.
- Demonstrate proficiency in integrating media and technology into classroom instruction.
- Support the overall progress and well-being of students while providing guidance on educational matters.
- Communicate with external parties when necessary (e.g., officials from the Ministry of Education).
- Engage in appraisal and Performance Management procedures, along with Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Collaborate with colleagues to prepare and develop teaching materials, resources, curricula, and pastoral care arrangements.
- Participate in, and take the lead when appropriate, in co-curricular and extra-curricular programs at the school. Foster positive working relationships through proactive leadership and the sharing of ideas, resources, and experiences.
- Monitor and supervise student behavior to ensure safety and appropriateness. Develop and implement strategies to promote self-discipline and effectively manage disruptive behaviors.
- Model and encourage cultural awareness and understanding while fostering a passion for learning.
- Assist in the planning and organization of school events and functions (e.g., inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, award ceremonies, etc.).
- Regularly communicate with parents to promote the GEMS philosophy and core values, while keeping them informed of their children's progress, all while respecting the confidentiality of student information.
- Exhibit initiative and dedication beyond standard work hours when tasks demand extra commitment.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as required.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by direct and dotted line managers/supervisors.
