Health and Safety Officer – Position Summary
The Health and Safety Officer plays a crucial role in the effective execution, supervision, management, and monitoring of the school’s Health and Safety Policy, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and maintaining optimal safety for all individuals involved.
Primary Responsibilities
Manage the creation, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of health and safety systems, policies, procedures, documentation, and practices throughout the school.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations as mandated by ADEK, Abu Dhabi Public Health Center (ADPHC) / Department of Health (DoH), along with other pertinent government and regulatory bodies.
Protect the health and safety of students, staff, contractors, sub-contractors, visitors, and all stakeholders by establishing and upholding clear and compliant policies and procedures for on-site and school-related activities.
Guarantee that all staff and students receive sufficient training, information, supervision, and guidance regarding workplace hazards and safe practices within the school environment and designated work areas.
Foster a safety culture of responsibility and accountability by promoting awareness of potential hazards (such as fire safety, laboratory safety, traffic management) through effective communication, consultation, and engagement with staff and stakeholders.
Create, implement, and sustain an Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) in accordance with ADPHC compliance standards, including timely periodic submissions to ADPHC/DoH and other relevant authorities based on the school’s risk classification.
Establish and uphold a well-defined health and safety leadership framework within the school, incorporating delegation processes and alignment with external regulatory requirements.
Provide appropriate induction, handover, and ongoing health and safety training for employees, contractors, and relevant stakeholders.
Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, and implement efficient control measures to mitigate risks in critical areas such as school transportation, student pick-up and drop-off, and traffic flow management.
Create, maintain, and routinely review the Emergency Response Plan and Occupational Injuries Register.
Keep comprehensive records of incident investigations, ensure precise reporting through ADEK and ADPHC electronic OSH reporting systems, and submit reports promptly.
Collaborate closely with the School Safeguarding Committee or Safeguarding Lead, following the ADEK School Safeguarding Policy, to guarantee adequate supervision, visual coverage, and proactive incident prevention and response.
