Head of English Faculty
About This Role
We are seeking to hire a Head of Faculty for English.
The British School Algiers, which is the first British international school in Algeria, commenced operations in November 2020 through a collaborative agreement between the Algerian and British governments. As we enter our fifth year, we are proud to report a successful first BSO inspection in May 2022, which can be viewed on our website. In September 2022, we relocated to newly constructed facilities.
Our institution serves students aged 4 to 18 and follows the English National Curriculum, adapted for an international context. Students engage in IGCSE and A-level English courses. With a modest size of just over 500 students, we have two classes per year group from Reception to Year 13. Approximately 60% of our student body is Algerian, while the remaining 40% represents 39 different nationalities.
Candidates must possess UK Qualified Teacher Status and be UK nationals. Additionally, applicants should have experience in teaching GCSE/IGCSE and A levels either in the UK or at an accredited British international school.
We are dedicated to fostering exceptional teaching and learning in a nurturing environment. Our school is known for its supportive and friendly atmosphere, characterized by positive interactions among staff and students.
Algiers is a vibrant, welcoming, and cosmopolitan city located on the Mediterranean coast, rich in history and easily accessible from the UK. Teachers enjoy a comfortable lifestyle due to the low cost of living, with a variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants available. It is possible for teachers to save a significant portion of their salary while also taking the opportunity to explore Algeria. The benefits package includes a competitive salary, with 75% paid in the UK, a high-quality apartment with complimentary services and internet in a desirable area, return flights, school lunches, medical insurance through a UK provider, and an allowance for excess baggage.
