About This Role
Job Purpose
To oversee and advance the Science department, ensuring exceptional teaching, learning, and student achievements throughout the Secondary school. The Head of Science will champion curriculum excellence, foster staff development, and ensure compliance with KHDA standards.
Job Responsibilities
•
Leadership & Strategy
•
Provide strategic direction for the Science department (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
•
Create and execute a distinct vision for Science teaching and learning
•
Contribute to school-wide improvement initiatives and academic strategies
•
Prepare for KHDA/DSIB inspections
•
Teaching & Learning
•
Evaluate and enhance teaching quality through lesson observations, coaching, and feedback
•
Encourage innovative and inquiry-driven learning methods in Science
•
Lead assessment, tracking, and intervention strategies aimed at boosting student outcomes
•
Curriculum & Assessment
•
Supervise curriculum design and implementation across all key stages
•
Analyze performance data to monitor and drive improvement plans
•
Uphold high standards in marking, feedback, and assessment practices
•
Staff Management & Development
•
Guide, mentor, and support Science teachers and technicians
•
Assist with the recruitment, induction, and retention of exceptional staff
•
Student Achievement & Wellbeing
•
Promote high standards of student achievement and progression in Science
•
Encourage student engagement, enrichment, and involvement in STEM programs
•
Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment, ensuring adherence to laboratory safety protocols
•
Operational & Compliance
•
Effectively manage departmental budgets and resources
•
Ensure health and safety compliance in laboratory settings
•
Maintain accurate records and assist with reporting requirements
Job Requirements
•
Bachelor’s degree in Science (Biology/Chemistry/Physics or a related field)
•
Recognized teaching qualification (PGCE / B.Ed. or equivalent)
•
Demonstrated experience teaching Science in a British curriculum school
•
Prior leadership or middle leadership experience (e.g., Head of Department) is preferred, though not essential for an exceptional candidate.
•
Outstanding leadership, communication, and organizational skills
•
Familiarity with the KHDA inspection framework is advantageous
