Primary PE and Swimming Teacher
About This Role
The role of PE and Swimming Teacher requires the skills, qualifications, and training necessary to instruct students from primary through middle school. Additional experience or training in high school and related disciplines is considered advantageous.
Knowledge and understanding:
- Either:
A) The candidate must possess a qualification certificate issued by the Department of National Education in China. Following the guidelines of China's New National Curriculum Standards, Chinese PE and Sport Education teachers are expected to significantly transform their teaching philosophies and strategies. They should support students in learning through practical experiences, cater to individual learning styles, enhance and integrate teaching materials, foster students' interest in learning, and encourage collaborative learning to facilitate knowledge sharing.
Or
B) A comprehensive understanding of PE and Swimming, with experience in national or international curricula (such as CNC, IPC, IMYC, PYP/MYP/IBDP; IGCSE, British NC, or equivalent) is required.
- Ability to provide guidance and support for student inquiries related to Sports and Health, fostering inquiry-based learning in their specialized subjects.
- Knowledge of curriculum and assessment development in PE, Swimming, and Creative activities.
Planning and setting expectations:
- Establish clear teaching goals, content, lesson formats, and sequences suited to the subject matter and students.
- Set high and appropriate expectations for student engagement and learning.
- Establish specific learning targets for students, building on previous achievements and experiences.
- Identify and accommodate students with special educational needs, whether requiring additional foundational support or advanced learning opportunities.
- When necessary, implement and maintain Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Collaborate with other subject area teachers to define learning objectives for topics, themes, and interdisciplinary tasks.
- Additional responsibilities include contributing to the development of online resources, administrative duties, and PE and Sport applications, along with interdisciplinary course development.
Teaching and managing student learning:
- Ensure effective instruction for whole classes, small groups, and individual students, ensuring that teaching goals are met, momentum is sustained, and teaching time is utilized efficiently.
- Employ teaching strategies aligned with inquiry-based learning to engage students, including stimulating curiosity, effective questioning, clear presentation, and appropriate resource usage.
- Maintain high behavior expectations, establishing a strong standard of discipline through focused and inspiring teaching and fostering positive, productive relationships.
- Encourage positive behavior patterns, boost self-esteem, and enhance independent learning among students to support their educational growth.
Assessment and evaluation:
- The assessment and evaluation of swimming programs should align with national curriculum standards, emphasizing students' ability to apply knowledge to solve practical problems.
- Assess both learning progress and outcomes, using these evaluations to inform future teaching and learning tasks.
- Mark, document, and track student assignments and homework, providing constructive feedback and setting appropriate progress targets.
- When applicable, understand the expectations placed on students concerning the national curriculum and international standards.
Relations with parents and the community:
- Be proficient in preparing and delivering high-quality, informative reports to parents.
- Recognize that learning extends beyond the classroom and create opportunities for students to connect their learning to relevant, real-world examples.
- Understand the importance of building effective relationships with school agencies and community partnerships.
Managing personal performance and development:
- Acknowledge the importance of taking responsibility for their professional growth and staying informed about research and advancements in pedagogy and their subject areas.
- Understand professional responsibilities regarding school policies, guidelines, and practices.
- Serve as a positive role model for students in both presentation and conduct.
- Critically assess their own teaching practices and utilize this reflection to enhance their effectiveness.
Managing and developing staff and other adults:
- Foster effective working relationships with professional colleagues, including co-teachers, specialist instructors, and support staff, to cultivate a high-quality and engaging professional learning community.
Managing resources:
- Choose and effectively utilize books, equipment, technology, and other learning materials that support teaching and learning objectives.
- Assist in maintaining an updated inventory of learning resources and materials, including classroom hardware and software.
