About This Role

Knowledge and Expertise:

- Possess an in-depth understanding of English Language, along with experience in national or international curricula (such as CNC, PYP, IPC, Cambridge, British NC, or equivalents).
- Capable of guiding students through subject-related inquiries and fostering an inquiry-based learning environment in their area of expertise.
- Familiar with curriculum and assessment development specific to English Language and the processes of English Language acquisition.

Planning and Expectations:

- Clearly define teaching objectives, content, lesson structures, and sequences that are fitting for the subject and the students.
- Establish high standards for student learning and motivation.
- Set clear learning targets for students, building on their previous achievements and experiences.
- Recognize and address the needs of students requiring special educational support, whether for foundational learning or advanced learning opportunities.
- Where applicable, implement and maintain Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Collaborate with the English and Language learning team to outline learning objectives for topics, themes, and interdisciplinary projects.
- Additional responsibilities include assisting in the creation of online resources, administration tasks, and the development of English Language learning applications and interdisciplinary courses.

Teaching and Student Learning Management:

- Deliver effective instruction to whole classes, groups, and individual students to meet teaching objectives, sustain momentum, and optimize instructional time.
- Employ teaching strategies that align with inquiry-based learning to keep students engaged through stimulating intellectual curiosity, effective questioning, clear presentations, and resourceful teaching methods.
- Maintain high expectations for student behavior, fostering a productive disciplinary environment through engaging and inspiring teaching, along with nurturing positive relationships.
- Encourage constructive behavior patterns, self-esteem, and independent work among students to promote their educational growth.

Assessment and Evaluation:

- Conduct assessments of and for learning to evaluate the achievement of learning objectives, using this information to inform future instructional planning.
- Grade, document, and track student performance on classwork and homework, providing constructive oral and written feedback while setting appropriate progress targets.
- When relevant, be aware of the expectations students face concerning national curriculum standards and international benchmarks.

Engagement with Parents and the Community:

- Know how to prepare and deliver high-quality, informative reports to parents.
- Acknowledge that learning occurs beyond the classroom and create opportunities for students to connect their learning to real-world, relevant examples.
- Understand the importance of building effective relationships with school agencies and partnerships outside of the school.

Self-Performance and Development Management:

- Recognize the importance of taking charge of their own professional development and staying updated on current research and pedagogical advancements related to the subjects they teach.
- Comprehend their professional responsibilities in accordance with school policies, guidelines, and practices.
- Serve as a role model for students in terms of presentation and personal conduct.
- Critically reflect on their teaching effectiveness and use these insights to enhance their practice.

Collaboration with Staff and Other Adults:

- Foster strong working relationships with professional colleagues, including co-teachers, specialists, and support staff to create a vibrant and engaging professional learning community.

Resource Management:

- Select and effectively utilize books, equipment, technology, and other educational resources to achieve teaching and learning objectives.
- Aid in maintaining an up-to-date inventory of learning resources and materials, including classroom hardware and software.

These responsibilities include roles such as homeroom teachers, supervision before and after school, overseeing campus grounds, providing study support in boarding houses, monitoring play and facility areas during breaks, participating in team and faculty meetings, engaging in professional development, contributing to school improvement initiatives, and supporting community events such as Open Days and Presentations. These responsibilities are considered in daily teaching load assignments, and teacher preparation time is preserved to ensure a responsible and appropriate level of professional care for all teachers and staff.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
