About This Role
Where culture meets excellence. Where rangatahi lead the future.
Te Kāpehu Whetū – Tāmaki Makaurau is seeking an exceptional pouako – science / STEM to join our bold, innovative kaupapa Māori secondary kura in the heart of the city.
This is not a conventional teaching role. It is an opportunity to shape high-performing senior science and STEM pathways for Y11–13, grounded in Māori identity and driven by academic excellence. You will work with rangatahi who are curious, capable, and ambitious – learners preparing for university, industry, and leadership in te ao Māori and te ao whānui.
Guided by our three pou – Kia Māori, Kia Mātau, Kia Tū Rangatira Ai – our kura delivers learning that is culturally grounded, future-focused, and unapologetically aspirational. Science and STEM are taught through inquiry, experimentation, real-world application, and strong academic rigour, with clear pathways to NCEA Levels 1–3 and University Entrance.
Our central city campus draws on the richness of Tāmaki Makaurau – partnering with tertiary providers, industry, and community organisations to give learning purpose and relevance beyond the classroom. Flexible learning structures, digital integration, and personalised programmes allow both ākonga and kaiako to thrive.
We are looking for a pouako who:
- Is passionate and confident in delivery senior science and STEM programmes
- Holds high expectations for Māori learners
- Values kaupapa Māori and culturally responsive practice
- Wants to be part of a kura that backs innovation, leadership, and excellence
If you are ready to teach in a place where identity is strength, learning is powerful, and achievement is celebrated, we want to hear from you.
Tū ki te marae. Tū ki te ao.
