Heart Lake First Nation #469 is located approximately 70 kilometers northeast of Lac La Biche, Alberta, and about 220 kilometers northeast of Edmonton, Alberta. Kohl's School is seeking a full-time certified Elementary School Teacher. We are in search of an energetic and passionate Grade 1/2 Teacher.

Teacher Job Description
Reports to: Principal

Overview
The teacher will collaborate closely with the Heart Lake educational team to provide students with holistic, culturally relevant, and meaningful learning experiences tailored specifically for the members of the Heart Lake First Nation.

Responsibilities
● Create and manage individualized learning plans for students.
● Develop lessons and curricula that accommodate the varied learning needs of individual students and groups, referencing the Alberta program of learning.
● Provide practical, hands-on learning experiences that are linked to the community.
● Employ a variety of instructional methods, including group and individualized teaching, along with computer programs to enhance student learning progress.
● Administer assessments to gauge both individual and group development.
● Promote a supportive and encouraging educational atmosphere.
● Keep precise records of student registration, attendance, and assessments, ensuring timely submission of data.
● Apply effective classroom management techniques that foster student learning.
● Engage in self-reflective practices and seek professional development opportunities to foster lifelong learning.
● Participate in in-service training sessions, staff meetings, and professional growth opportunities.
● Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Ability to teach students from diverse backgrounds and abilities while addressing challenges within a multi-level classroom setting.
● Understanding of First Nations culture and perspective.
● Capacity to create a learning environment that meets the developmental needs and interests of students.
● Knowledge of differentiated instruction strategies.
● Strong oral and written communication skills.
● Effective classroom management skills.
● Excellent organizational abilities.
● Team-oriented collaborator who works well with colleagues.
● Maintain a clean and professional classroom environment.
● Ability to engage with local First Nations parents, community leaders, school officials, and staff.

Schedule
From September to June, with breaks and special activities following the School Calendar. Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in Education.
● Experience working directly with First Nations students.
● Two to three years of teaching experience in an elementary setting.
● Willingness to take part in community events and gatherings.
● Valid Alberta teaching certificate.
● Clear Criminal record check and Vulnerable Sector clearance.
