About This Role

English Teacher

Reach British School is seeking to appoint an outstanding, enthusiastic, adaptable, and dedicated English Teacher.

The successful candidate will be passionate about the English language and literature and committed to delivering engaging, well-structured lessons that develop students’ reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills. They will provide effective, personalised feedback in line with key school policies, including Teaching & Learning and Assessment, ensuring students are supported, challenged, and motivated to achieve excellent outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons in line with the school’s curriculum and planning frameworks (LTPs, MTPs, and STPs).

  • Develop students’ reading comprehension, writing proficiency, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.
  • Structure lessons effectively, maintaining pace, challenge, and engagement.
  • Ensure learning objectives are clear and understood by students.
  • Motivate and challenge all students through effective differentiation for individuals and groups.
  • Provide opportunities for discussion, debate, creative writing, and analytical thinking.
  • Promote a love of reading through exposure to a wide range of literary texts and genres.
  • Support students in developing strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Set meaningful and engaging homework to consolidate and extend learning.
  • Incorporate peer and self-assessment to support reflection and improvement.
  • Maintain effective behaviour and resource management within the classroom.
  • Model high expectations and promote positive behaviour in line with school policy.
  • Adapt teaching to meet the needs of all learners, including students of determination (SEN) and EAL students.
  • Ensure students understand key literary terminology, language conventions, and writing techniques.
  • Integrate SMSC development and reflect creativity, innovation, and enterprise within planning.
  • Establish a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students feel confident to express ideas and opinions.

AMAR: Academic Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting

  • Accurately assess formative and summative assessments and moderate where required.
  • Use assessment data effectively to inform planning and enhance student progress.
  • Provide systematic, meaningful, and age-appropriate personalised feedback.
  • Complete personalised reports in line with the school’s Assessment and Reporting Policy.

Person Specification

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ full-time teaching experience in the UK or in a British Curriculum school
  • Excellent knowledge of the National Curriculum for England (English) and current assessment practices
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage students in meaningful learning
  • Experience using data systems, student tracking, intervention strategies, and reporting
  • A commitment to outstanding teaching and learning
  • Confidence in using IT and digital tools to enhance learning
  • A willingness to build strong partnerships with parents
  • A collaborative approach to supporting whole-school initiatives and the school improvement cycle
