About This Role

The Deputy Head of Secondary serves as a vital member of the executive leadership team, collaborating closely with the Head of Secondary and the Senior Leadership Team to promote academic excellence, operational efficiency, and a vibrant learning culture. The ideal candidate may also engage in school-wide strategic responsibilities, contributing to overarching school improvement goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Actively advocate for and embody the ethos, vision, and standards of excellence that align with the GEMS Education Core Values.
- Collaborate with the Head of Secondary to cultivate and integrate effective, innovative, and globally relevant teaching and learning methodologies.
- Assist in executing the school’s strategic vision for high-quality education and ongoing enhancement.
- Ensure that GEMS Core Values are infused throughout all curricular and co-curricular programs, promoting a culture of aspiration, respect, and inclusivity.

Teaching, Learning and Curriculum
- Spearhead the establishment of comprehensive monitoring and evaluation systems to assess teaching and learning quality, implementing targeted improvement measures as necessary.
- Conduct lesson observations and performance evaluations based on specific needs, providing constructive developmental feedback that aligns with school priorities.
- Collaborate with Heads of Department and coordinators to guarantee curriculum continuity, progression, and adherence to regulatory standards.
- Ensure the curriculum adapts to student needs while fulfilling established standards and content frameworks.

Staff Development and Leadership
- Foster staff professional development through coaching, mentoring, and structured professional growth initiatives aligned with defined improvement targets.
- Lead meetings, oversee working groups, and participate in whole-school leadership initiatives.
- Enhance leadership capacity within the Secondary phase, contributing to succession planning and talent cultivation.

Student Experience and Enrichment
- Supervise the effective delivery of support programs, enrichment activities, educational trips, assemblies, and special events that enhance student learning and wellbeing.
- Collaborate with pastoral and inclusion teams to maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for every student.

Community Engagement and Operations
- Build robust partnerships with parents and the wider community through clear and consistent communication and engagement strategies.
- Coordinate with the Registrar on admissions processes, including student induction, assessment, and transition arrangements.
- Assist in organizing Parent-Teacher meetings, school events, charity initiatives, and broader GEMS network programs.

Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Participate in budget planning and resource management, ensuring optimal staffing and facility utilization.
- Undertake teaching responsibilities and other professional duties as assigned by the Head of Secondary and Senior Leadership Team.
- Ensure consistent adherence to all GEMS policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Exhibit flexibility and dedication, acknowledging that senior leadership responsibilities may extend beyond regular school hours.
- Attend leadership meetings and serve on committees as necessary.
- Perform any additional duties that may be reasonably assigned by direct or dotted-line managers.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
