We are seeking an experienced and highly effective Deputy Head of Primary to support the leadership and management of our Primary School of approximately 350 students within a growing international school.
The Deputy Head of Primary will work closely with the Head of Primary to ensure the highest standards of teaching, learning, curriculum delivery, and pupil wellbeing across the Primary phase.
The Role
The Deputy Head of Primary will support the strategic and operational leadership of the Primary School, contributing to its continuous improvement and day-to-day effectiveness.
The role includes leading specific aspects of Primary provision, supporting staff development, and ensuring consistency, quality, and positive outcomes for all students. The Deputy Head will also play a key role in maintaining a strong, collaborative Primary School culture.
A particular focus of the role will be supporting the development of innovative, engaging learning approaches, including effective integration of STEM within the Primary curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
Support the Head of Primary in the day-to-day leadership and management of the Primary School.
Lead on designated areas of responsibility within the Primary phase (e.g. curriculum development, assessment, inclusion, wellbeing).
Contribute to the strategic development and review of the Primary School development plan.
Ensure high expectations and consistent standards across all Primary classes and year groups.
Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum
Support the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the Primary curriculum.
Promote high-quality teaching and learning, including inquiry-based, child-centred, and technology-enhanced approaches.
Support the effective integration of STEM across the Primary curriculum.
Monitor teaching and learning through lesson observation, work scrutiny, data analysis, and feedback.
Staff Support and Development
Line-manage identified members of Primary staff.
Support professional development through coaching, mentoring, and collaborative planning.
Contribute to staff appraisal, goal-setting, and performance review processes within the Primary phase.
Support the induction and ongoing development of new Primary staff.
Student Wellbeing and Inclusion
Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all Primary students.
Support systems for pastoral care, behaviour, and wellbeing within the Primary School.
Contribute to the provision and monitoring of support for students with additional learning or language needs.
Parents and Community
Build strong, positive relationships with parents within the Primary School community.
Support effective communication between school and home.
Lead or attend Primary parent meetings and events as required.
Person Specification
Essential
Proven experience in a leadership or middle leadership role within a Primary School.
Strong understanding of Primary curriculum, assessment, and child-centred pedagogy.
Experience supporting and developing teaching staff.
Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.
Desirable
Experience or strong interest in STEM education in the Primary context.
International school experience.
Experience contributing to curriculum innovation or school improvement initiatives within the Primary phase.
