About This Role

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher and creative leader to the post of Curriculum Leader for English. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop the work of our English department. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of achieving excellent results along with the ability to motivate and inspire teachers and students alike.

The English Department

The English Department is a large, friendly and supportive department made up of 16 members of staff; eight part time and eight full time.

Key Stage 3

The department has recently updated the curriculum to offer a diachronic study of literature that challenges learners. In Year 7, classes explore myths and legends, such as Beowulf and the Ancient Greeks, before moving on to a Victorian novel in Year 8. Finally, in Year 9, we concentrate on 20th-century texts. We utilise various features from TWR and OAT academy resources—specifically deconstructed essay skills—to ensure KS3 provides the rigour and content necessary to prepare students for KS4.

Key Stage 4

Year 10 and Year 11 are taught in sets according to ability. Students are prepared for both English Language and English Literature GCSE of the AQA specification. All classes study the same literature texts to allow the department to continue enhancing and fine-tuning our resources. Throughout Years 10 and 11, after-school sessions are timetabled in order to supplement classroom learning.

Key Stage 5

At Trinity, we currently have around 50 students studying English courses in the Sixth Form. We offer AQA English Language, AQA English Literature (‘A’ syllabus) and Media Studies at A level, having recently moved to EDUQAS for the latter.
