About This Role

Bethlehem College is a co-educational, Christian area school (Years 1 to 13). We are seeking an experienced and capable educational leader to join our secondary leadership team (SLT) as assistant head of secondary.


This is a significant leadership opportunity for a relational, faith-driven educator who is committed to shaping a Christ-centred learning environment and contributing to the strategic and day-to-day leadership of a thriving secondary school.


The Role


The assistant head of secondary works closely with the head of secondary and SLT to:



  • lead and support staff to deliver high-quality teaching and learning

  • strengthen systems, processes, and organisational effectiveness

  • foster a culture of collaboration, growth, and shared responsibility

  • support the holistic development and welfare of students and staff

  • contribute to strategic planning and long-term school improvement

  • oversee staff development, performance management, and professional growth to support continuous improvements

  • act on behalf of the head of secondary when required and upholding responsibility for agreed portfolios, systems, and operational leadership.


This role requires a leader who can balance operational clarity with relational leadership, and who is confident making decisions aligned with the College’s vision and values.


About You


You will:



  • accept the condition to support, uphold and be positively involved in the special character of the school

  • have appropriate teaching qualification and current NZ Teaching Council Registration

  • have proven leadership capability within a secondary school context

  • have strong organisational, systems and data-informed leadership capability

  • have the capacity to lead change, while maintaining relational trust

  • commit to developing both staff and student leadership

  • align with the College’s mission, vision, and special character.

Compensation
