Crofton House School is seeking a dynamic Assistant Director to provide strategic leadership, guidance, and support for pedagogical initiatives across various subjects, focusing primarily on our intermediate/middle years program (Grades 4 - 7). This role calls for a knowledgeable and experienced educator and leader who excels in supporting both teachers and students, utilizing strategies that align with the developmental needs of young girls. The Assistant Director, equipped with a strong foundation in educational research and best practices, will play a vital role in shaping and implementing our long-term strategic objectives. Collaborating closely with the Director of the Junior School and the Junior School Leadership Team, this individual will ensure alignment in key pedagogical practices across all Junior School programs, fostering a cohesive approach to deep learning and skill development. While the primary concentration is on Grades 4 to 7, some strategic initiatives will extend beyond the intermediate level. The ideal applicant will be open-minded, approachable, and capable of instilling confidence and trust among all stakeholders, emphasizing the significance of pedagogy in nurturing a positive social and emotional learning environment and applying a culturally competent lens within our diverse community. Educational Leadership
● Collaborate with the Junior School Director to set priorities that enhance teaching and learning within our Intermediate (Grades 4-5) and Middle School (Grades 6-7) programs, building on evidence-based, research-informed pedagogical practices.
● Develop, implement, and evaluate annual plans for Junior School professional development aligned with the overall school strategy.
● Ensure that pedagogical methods are rooted in a comprehensive understanding of key elements, including social and emotional learning, inquiry-based education, competency-based learning, and differentiation through the lens of whole child development.
● Oversee and improve our systematic approach to data analysis, focusing on foundational areas such as reading, writing, numeracy, and competency development.
● Ensure that assessment and reporting practices for Grades 4-7 are cohesive and best practice-centered, carefully considering student growth and well-being.
● Supervise the development, implementation, and evaluation of new school-wide educational initiatives (JK-Grade 7) as needed, in consultation with the Junior School Director.
● Provide leadership in specialist curriculum areas, including Physical and Health Education and Languages (French, Spanish).
● Collaborate with the Junior School leadership team to establish a pedagogical framework that supports the needs of the Senior School while building on methodologies from Kindergarten to Grade 7.

Mentorship
● Support the annual execution of the Teacher Professional Growth Plan (TPGP) in collaboration with the Junior School leadership team.
● Enhance current processes for classroom observations and sharing insights.
● Contribute to mentoring and guiding new staff in partnership with program coordinators.
● Design, implement, and evaluate collaborative professional learning models that promote autonomy and accountability while fostering a student-centered, evidence-based approach to teaching and learning.
● Stay updated on research and developments in pedagogy at local, national, and international levels, sharing relevant insights with staff, students, and parents as appropriate.

Organizational Leadership
● Collaborate with the Junior School Director to create a student-centered schedule.
● Support the daily operations of the Middle School program with the program coordinator, including the annual admissions process.
● Ensure coherence, alignment, and balance in Junior School programming and events, with particular attention to our co-curricular and athletic offerings.
● Participate in recruiting teachers and educators pertinent to this role.
● Work with finance and administrative teams to allocate resources, develop budgets, and manage staffing plans as required.

Whole School Collaboration and Partnerships
● Collaborate with the Director of the Junior School and the CHS Learning Council on all aspects of school management, including inspection and accreditation preparation and overarching school strategic initiatives.
● Work with the Junior School Leadership Team to ensure a holistic approach to teaching and learning, informed by research and best practices in girl-centered education.
● Build strategic professional partnerships within local, national, and international networks to enhance pedagogical practices at the school.
● Actively participate in community events, modeling positive relationships with parents, students, and staff while fostering a strong sense of belonging for all members of the community.

Other Duties
● Teaching responsibilities aligned with skills and experience for up to 2 days per cycle as needed.
● Additional tasks assigned based on the candidate's skills, abilities, interests, and the needs of the school.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience

Essential
● B.C. Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate or qualifications for Independent School Certification.
● A solid understanding of the learning needs of Junior School-aged girls, demonstrated through a history of excellent, evidence-based, and research-informed classroom practice.
● Experience in a school leadership role or proven evidence of relevant leadership experience.
● A comprehensive understanding of effective professional learning models and a commitment to continuous professional development, including the ability to inspire and support teacher growth.
● Proven success in implementing new initiatives related to teaching and learning.
● A profound understanding of effective change processes, showcasing the ability to be innovative, flexible, and reflective.
● Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a background in cultivating positive relationships with administrators, teachers, parents, administrative staff, and community partners.
● A thorough understanding of intercultural competencies necessary for effectively engaging with a diverse community.
● Knowledge of risk management, including mitigation strategies and crisis response.
● Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
● A collaborative and open demeanor, paired with a passion for the teaching profession.
● Enthusiasm and readiness to fully engage in the vibrant life of the school community.

Desirable
● Experience in an independent school setting.
● Familiarity with the expectations of a selective girl-centered institution.
● Experience with the BC curriculum.

Compensation

Β£30,000 - Β£45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
