About This Role

Job Description

• Collaborate with the Head of the Performing Arts Academy to develop and implement lessons and units for students in both Middle School and Senior School.

• Work alongside the Head of Performing Arts to manage the school choir program and co-curricular activities that reflect the interests and requirements of students throughout the institution.

• Contribute to the advancement of teaching and learning in Music and across the school by sharing resources and best practices.

• Show a strong commitment to organizing and participating in music events and activities arranged by the Performing Arts Academy.

• Ensure that all safeguarding, health and safety protocols, and other College policies are understood and incorporated into daily routines.

• Plan and deliver engaging and innovative learning experiences for students in a supportive and secure environment.

• Foster an inclusive learning environment, adjusting educational strategies to meet the diverse needs of each student.

• Collaboratively plan within the framework of the FCG Senior and Middle School curriculum, building upon students' knowledge and skills while emphasizing connections among various curriculum areas.

• Continuously evaluate student learning and progress, utilizing these assessments to guide instructional planning.

• Complete Orders and Reports according to established protocols.

• Maintain a strong emphasis on students' learning methods, creating an engaging atmosphere that promotes independent learning, creative thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

• Establish strong connections with parents and the wider community through effective communication.

• Develop and refine various techniques to support English Language Learners.

• Encourage each student to realize their full potential and strive for excellence.

• Dedicate efforts to the continuous development of a holistic, student-centered curriculum, informed by global best practices.

• Provide effective support for the personal, social, and emotional development of each student.

• Actively participate in the school community, including involvement in co-curricular activities.

• Supervise students during break times and manage evening prep duty to assist boarders with homework weekly.

• Occasionally support school admissions and marketing events on weekends.

• Organize subject assemblies to showcase student learning upon request.

• Attend school functions, such as parent meetings, that may take place outside regular working hours.

• Maintain a vibrant classroom atmosphere by routinely updating displays.

Professional Development:

• Engage in ongoing self-assessment of professional practices, collaborating with teams and receiving guidance from the School Leadership Team.

• Participate in continuous professional development opportunities, including but not limited to IB workshops, subject-specific training, and safeguarding training.

• Stay updated on current pedagogical trends and curriculum advancements in international education.

• Aim to broaden professional horizons and embrace innovative methodologies.

• Establish professional learning goals that align with the developmental needs of the school and College, ensuring equal opportunities for all.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Music with a recognized teaching qualification (such as PGCE, BEd, MEd).

• Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in a classroom environment.

• A strong passion for working with students and the ability to engage them in the learning process.

• Excellent listening skills, showing respect for the ideas of students, parents, and colleagues.

• Proactive problem-solving skills.

• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within a team.

• Willingness to gain a thorough understanding of the PYP, MYP, and CNC (Chinese National Curriculum).

• Preferred skills in vocal or keyboard performance.

• Ability to enhance student learning through ongoing formative assessment in the classroom.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Effective use of ICT in all aspects of instruction and learning.

• Understanding and commitment to child safeguarding.

• Participation in co-curricular programs.

• Previous experience in an international school setting is desirable.

• Familiarity with inquiry-based teaching and a solid understanding of its application in the classroom is preferred.
