Why Japan Is Asia's Most Culturally Rewarding Destination

Japan is unlike anywhere else on earth. For international teachers, it combines world-class international schools with a country of extraordinary cultural depth — from ancient temples and tea ceremonies to bullet trains and cutting-edge technology. Tokyo hosts approximately 40 international schools, with smaller clusters in Osaka, Nagoya, and Kobe.

Salaries are competitive (though not Gulf-level), and the cost of living, while higher than SE Asia, is offset by excellent infrastructure, safety, and a quality of life that consistently attracts teachers who stay for decades.

Key Insight: Japan has the lowest teacher turnover of any major international destination. Teachers who go to Japan tend to fall in love and stay.

Family reality: Japan is safe beyond imagination — children walk to school alone from age 6. The public transport system is peerless. While international school fees are high, tuition remission makes it viable. Japanese public schools are also excellent if your children can handle the language.
