Why India Offers the World's Most Immersive Teaching Experience

India is sensory overload in the best possible way. The international school sector has exploded in recent years, driven by India's booming middle class and their voracious appetite for international education. Mumbai, Delhi (NCR), Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai host over 100 international schools between them, with IB and British curricula dominating.

Salaries are modest in absolute terms, but the cost of living is so extraordinarily low that your purchasing power is immense. Combined with full-time domestic help, exotic travel opportunities, and a cultural depth that no other destination can match, India is transformative.

Key Insight: India isn't for everyone — the pace, noise, and cultural distance from the West can be overwhelming. But teachers who embrace it describe it as the most meaningful professional and personal experience of their lives.

  • Festivals: Diwali, Holi, Ganesh Chaturthi — genuinely life-changing cultural experiences.
  • Climate: Varies enormously. Mumbai (tropical), Delhi (extreme — 5°C winters, 45°C summers), Bangalore (pleasant year-round).
  • Challenges: Traffic, pollution (especially Delhi), bureaucracy, and sensory intensity require adjustment.
