The Role

Working as the MLD centre manager of our specialist provision, you will:

As MLD centre manager:

  • Work closely with the SENCO to ensure the teaching practice, learning support, learning environment and resources for the MLD centre are of a high standard and conducive to excellent pupil progress.

  • Ensure LEO policy and practice is embedded within the specialist centre.

  • Lead regular team meetings, foster a collaborative working environment, and support team wellbeing.

  • Support with the implementation of assessment systems to track academic and holistic progress, using this data to report to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

  • Work closely with the Local Authority (SEN caseworkers) regarding admissions, consultations, funding, and pupil placements.

  • Strategically plan and manage the logistics of inclusion timetables, ensuring pupils seamlessly transition between the specialist centre and mainstream classes.

  • Advocate for the needs of pupils with MLD across the wider school, ensuring the centre's pupils are fully included in whole-school events, assemblies, and trips.

  • Oversee the intake of new pupils into the centre and support in the management of transition processes for pupils moving on to secondary education or other provisions.

  • Work closely with the SENCO to ensure the teaching practice, learning support, learning environment and resources for the MLD centre are of a high standard and conducive to excellent pupil progress.

As an MLD Centre Teacher

  • Deliver high-quality, adaptive teaching tailored to the complex sensory and communication needs of our pupils, ensuring Maths, English, and the wider curriculum are accessible and engaging.

  • Maintain a structured, calm learning environment where children feel secure and motivated to learn.

  • Work collaboratively with relevant others such as LEO Inclusion staff, Teaching Assistants, Teachers and external therapists to implement individual EHCP goals.

  • Assist in providing a personalised curriculum with learning divided between the specialist centre and mainstream classroom learning.

  • Allow learners to access a national curriculum modified to meet the needs of the individual.

  • Provide a curriculum based on the whole needs of the pupil with effective communication and promoting independence as key principles, emphasising language enrichment.

  • Meet pupils’ individual sensory needs with the advice of an occupational therapist.

  • Teach play, leisure and social skills effectively.

  • Prepare pupils for secondary education through development of independence and life skills.

  • Work closely with therapists and other specialists to support pupils in achieving individual targets.

  • Build strong, empathetic relationships with parents and carers to ensure a consistent, supportive approach.

  • Contribute to the vibrant wider life of the academy and the Trust.

What You Will Bring

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.

  • Proven experience in / ability to demonstrate a deep interest and understanding of:

    • SEND pedagogy, teaching and learning;

    • working with children with moderate learning difficulties and social communication difficulties.

  • A resilient, patient, and creative approach to classroom management, whilst keeping a focus on positive behaviour support.

  • A desire to engage in continuous professional development and be part of a forward-thinking team

Compensation

£30,000 - £46,525 (MPS/UPS Scale)
*Estimated range based on regional data averages.
