Ataguttaaluk Elementary School is situated in the charming hamlet of Igloolik, Nunavut, and serves its local community. The school caters to roughly 395 students from K-6, supported by a staff of 40. Both the school and the community are rich in Inuit cultural heritage.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers who lack a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not required to fulfill every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
- Experience in supporting education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
- Experience teaching in bilingual or ESL settings
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Training or experience in utilizing current assessment methods to inform learning
- Proven ability to create a positive learning atmosphere through effective classroom management practices (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in developing respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Experience in promoting student wellbeing and engagement
- Experience interacting with students outside the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in planning instruction and student supports through collaborative methods
- Experience working as part of a school team in a collaborative manner
- Experience learning and contributing within a shared, community-oriented environment

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: Available, though sharing may be necessary.

Conditions of Employment
- Current employees of the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate issued by a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
