About the School
Ataguttaaluk Elementary School, located in the scenic hamlet of Igloolik, Nunavut, serves the local community with approximately 395 students in a K-6 setting and a dedicated staff of 40. The school is deeply embedded in the rich history of Inuit culture.

Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada).

Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not required to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written).
- Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education.
- Experience in bilingual or ESL teaching environments.
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canada contexts.

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive practices.
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development.
- Training or experience using contemporary assessment methods to guide learning.
- Experience in fostering a positive classroom environment through effective management practices (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports).

Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in cultivating respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Experience in promoting student wellbeing and engagement.
- Experience engaging with students beyond the classroom as appropriate.

Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student supports.
- Experience working as part of a school team.
- Experience contributing to a shared, community-focused environment.

Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (commensurate with experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available

Conditions of Employment
- Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a current public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
