We are seeking a creative and highly skilled Computer Science Teacher to join our Faculty of Engineering Design and Technology. The ideal candidate will deliver exceptional instruction at IGCSE and A Level and lead the development of an innovative, engaging computing curriculum. This role extends beyond merely preparing students for exams; it encompasses nurturing a spirit of curiosity, creativity, and hands-on problem-solving through project-based learning, robotics, physical computing, and exploring cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and generative tools.
Key Responsibilities
1. High-Quality Teaching & Learning (IGCSE & A Level)
- Design and deliver engaging, challenging lessons that align with the British National Curriculum and examination board standards (Edexcel IGCSE, A Level).
- Enhance students’ understanding of key computer science principles: algorithms, data structures, programming, systems architecture, and computational thinking.
- Provide effective support to ensure inclusivity for EAL students while upholding academic standards.
- Implement a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies, including exam-style practice, to prepare students for external evaluations.
- Deliver timely, constructive feedback that supports students in achieving high academic results.
2. Curriculum Innovation & Project-Based Learning
- Develop and implement a cutting-edge computing curriculum from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5, ensuring a seamless progression of skills and knowledge.
- Employ project-based learning (PBL) approaches that motivate students to design, construct, test, and evaluate practical computing solutions.
- Integrate interdisciplinary connections with Design & Technology, engineering, and STEM to reflect real-world industry practices.
- Create units that transition theoretical knowledge into practical computing applications, including app development, simulations, data-driven projects, and problem-solving exercises.
3. Physical Computing & Robotics Development
- Collaborate with existing staff to establish a comprehensive robotics program across the school, focusing on both curriculum integration and extracurricular opportunities.
- Enhance learning experiences using platforms such as:
- Arduino
- Micro:bit
- Robotics systems (e.g., VEX or similar)
- Guide students in connecting hardware and software, including sensors, actuators, and embedded systems.
- Support students in preparing for and participating in robotics and STEM competitions, encouraging teamwork, iterative processes, and engineering design thinking.
4. AI, Emerging Technologies & Digital Innovation
- Introduce students to concepts of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and generative technologies in a manner that is both age-appropriate and ethical.
- Incorporate computational thinking for AI applications, focusing on data management, pattern recognition, and model evaluation.
- Promote thoughtful discussions about the ethical, social, and environmental implications of emerging technologies.
- Stay informed about advancements in AI and educational technology, translating these innovations into practical applications in the classroom.
5. Enrichment & Culture Building
- Establish and manage extracurricular activities such as coding clubs, hackathons, robotics teams, and innovation challenges.
- Cultivate an environment where students are encouraged to experiment, prototype, and iterate, in line with best practices in constructivist and experiential learning.
- Showcase student achievements through exhibitions, competitions, and digital portfolios to foster pride and ownership.
6. Contribution to Faculty & School Development
- Collaborate within the Faculty of Engineering Design and Technology to align computing with broader STEM initiatives.
- Participate in curriculum planning, resource development, and departmental enhancement goals.
- Engage in whole-school initiatives, including digital transformation, staff professional development, and cross-curricular innovation.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, behavior, and academic integrity.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
- Recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- Proven experience teaching Computer Science at IGCSE and A Level.
- Strong programming skills (e.g., Python, Java, or similar).
- Experience or strong interest in physical computing and embedded systems (Arduino, Micro:bit, etc.).
- Commitment to project-based and inquiry-led learning methodologies.
- Ability to engage and inspire students from diverse abilities and cultural backgrounds.
Desirable:
- Experience with robotics platforms (e.g., VEX, LEGO, or similar).
- Proficiency in AI/ML tools and the integration of generative technologies into teaching.
- Experience in international or bilingual educational settings.
- Evidence of leading or contributing to extracurricular STEM initiatives or competitions.
