Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Candidates are not required to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a dedication to community-centered education will be highly valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both written and verbal)
- Experience in educational settings that align with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles
- Background in bilingual or ESL teaching
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational environments
Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Experience with current assessment strategies to guide learning
- Demonstrated ability to foster a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)
Relationships & Student Engagement
- Proven history of developing respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Experience in promoting student well-being and engagement
- Participation with students beyond the classroom, when appropriate
Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in collaborative instructional planning and student support
- Ability to work effectively within a school team
- Contribution to a community-focused learning environment
Compensation and benefits
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Nunavut Northern Allowance for Igloolik, Nunavut: $22,579
- Subsidized Housing: NOT available
Conditions of Employment
- Current Government of Nunavut employees must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Candidates from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a valid public-school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications without this documentation will not be considered.
