The York School, an independent co-educational establishment situated in midtown Toronto, provides the International Baccalaureate (IB) program from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12. JOB PURPOSE
The York School is seeking Supply Teachers for the 2025/2026 Academic Year to assist with curriculum delivery and classroom activities during the absence of the regular classroom Teacher. Coverage assignments may be prearranged, but Supply Teachers may also be called upon for same-day coverage.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute all standard teaching responsibilities to further the curriculum established by the classroom Teacher.
- Act as a positive role model for students and community members at all times.
- Follow lesson plans while preserving the integrity of academic time and creating an engaging atmosphere that encourages student participation and learning.
- Complete a Substitute Teacher Report Form for the regular classroom teacher after each class or instructional period.
- Familiarize yourself with and adhere to school policies and procedures, including those pertaining to emergencies.
- Immediately report any student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or disciplinary matters to the appropriate authority, or as soon as possible.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- A Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and current membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers.
- Experience and training in the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework is a plus.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, contributing positively to an inclusive school culture.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff, emphasizing a service-oriented approach that guarantees professionalism, respect, and responsiveness in all interactions.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Comfort with navigating a technologically advanced school setting, with familiarity in Google Workspace considered an asset.
